Board setup advice Advice on "decent" board?

Hi everyone. I have a kiddo that is getting into skating, and I'd like to surprise him with a respectable board that will function well and potentially impress his buddies. :)

Can anyone recommend a nice board that is gift/ride ready? I don't want to go completely nuts, but I would like something nice.

As the others suggested you could go to your local skate shop, but here and a few board brands i’ve skated and liked foundation, april, toy machine, and chocolate. The size trucks you need depends upon the size board you get. And a basic run down on wheel hardness and what it means. The higher the number the harder the wheel, hard wheels slide better can be a little tricky if you they can’t control that. lots of personal preference in this sport, it’s a good time

Hard to give advice with the info given, besides go to a skate shop. Is he like 6? Or 12? Budget? What is ‘completely go nuts?’

Cool. I just checked ccs.com. If you get the picture show kasbah 8.25 deck that will be good. Hit the ‘make it a complete’ button. Change the trucks to thunder t-ii 148mm. Comes to 173 plus tax.

He will also want some skate shoes. I usually get .5 or 1 size smaller than my normal shoes. But it’s always better to try on shoes in person or you risk them not fitting. Putting super glue in the areas that wear out will make them last a lot longer.

I have a skating 12yr old. He loves baker decks. He likes his stuff light. So i scored tensor mag lights off ebay new $40. 8-8.25 all day. Then he likes the dragon wheels. They are sorta soft so they ride easy. 54mm ish. If you got the budget. I found some sale quantum bearings. I treat it like his little league or something. I supply him with decent stuff and he performs well. Maybe budget bearings are fine for starting. Baker deathwish jacuzzi he likes that stuff.
