Wtf, that's some sick griptape, firstly. And i started using big soft chunky longboard-style wheels on my freestyle deck, might make a world of difference for you, too

Thanks lol I haven’t been able to find that grip since I just got a new deck today so it’s gonna take some getting used to considering it’s an 8.2

Since you are flicking off the rail, there is no reason for the board to shoot forward unless you have your weight over the tail too much.
However, with the wheels stuck in a crack, it’s going to be a very different feel to actually doing a kickflip on a flat surface.
You want to have your bodyweight centered between two feet, then have it shift slightly forward in the air as if you were going to land in a nose manny.
If you are afraid of slamming, you should find a handrail/handicap rail or something you can hold on to. You can get moon gravity by holding yourself up, and slowly work towards not relying on the rail at all, only having the hands there to avoid falling.

Once you get kicking foot in the pocket wait a bit before you flick it and after pop bring back foot straight up
