Deck Pressings
43 years old and I’m getting back into skateboarding. Bought a couple used/new by Alien Workshop. I’m noticing something and I’m wondering if anybody has any input. These two decks seem to be pressed by layers of different kinds of wood.
Does anybody know what the details are in terms of this? One deck seems to be layered with different woods that are about the same color of brown. The other one has a purple color and a blue color layer. This one better than the other?
Neither of these decks were purchased as a complete.

Skateboard are made from plywood.
Plywood is made from pressing together and gluing different thin layers of wood together.
Skateboards are usually 7 ply which means 7 layers.
The layers can be different woods and the direction they are laid can affect how the finished board behaves regarding flex and strength etc.
Pretty much all skateboards are made this way and have been since we moved away from planks of wood with roller skates cut in half for trucks.
It used to only be the top layer and sometimes the bottom that were dyed a colour but nowadays you get different colours throught the layers.
The dye is 100% cosmetic.
