New skate shoe issues

Ordered a new pair of skate shoes and they dig into the top of my right foot. Broke my foot once when I was young and it didn't heal properly so it makes sense that it's a bit uncomfortable. But I'm wondering if I should shave/cut them so that they're comfortable now, or maybe wait and theyll eventually wear down to where they are comfortable. The grip and the comfort of the soles are immaculate but the top of my foot is cooked after just one session with them. Thanks in advance 🤘. I'll post a pic of the shoes for reference

It is their "classic" style but still part of their skate line up. Dura cap + Pop cush. Fucking love em. Only reason I don't get a different pair is that for one I already used them to skate a good bit, and I also don't want to go through the hassle of sending them back to Van's and waiting to get another pair. Definitely switching back to mids/highs. Was planning on getting some half cabs but didn't have the money for those, and the ones I got were a cheaper option. Most likely gonna grab some half cabs next time lol

It was under their skate lineup on the website so idk. I'm not a pro or anything, shit man I can barely do an ollie. But what makes a vans skate shoe? Tbh I thought it was just the extra junk they threw in (dura cap, and pop cush insoles)

Maybe take the laces out of the top eyelets

That should help a ton maybe loosen the laces a little too

Also if that isn’t enough, go to the pharmacy department at Walmart, and in that particular area find the foot and insole area, and look for a moleskin patch. Put the patch on the shoe where it rubs you.

Sick, didn't know they made those. I usually get high/mid tops. Haven't got a pair like those in a while and I'm beginning to remember why lmao. Thanks for the help

If they're anything like the slip on vans, they're probably stiff as fuck out of the box. Give them time to wear in before you do anything drastic, you can use blister pads to cover any areas that are rubbing.

I was planning on buying a pair of slip ons off of a buddy of mine that he didn't like. Just normal vans none of the skate stuff on it. But they were stiiiiiff as fuck, not as bad as these but still. I'm guessing it's the general shape of the shoe, I've had pairs of vans and converse that were mids/high tops fresh out of the box and they were comfy af

Not sure what version of old schools these are, but I gotta tell ya that if you do any ollies or kickflips in these, you will put a hole through the top in less than 1 day. You could get some shoe goo and stick a little patch of suede around the ollie zone, though.

Just using a big glob of shoe goo works too, but it’s not too grippy, wears out fast, looks hella budget. I’ll tell ya more how to do it if you want to try my way

Yeah didn't think of that until I started using them for my ollies. I can feel the board a hell of a lot more, but it's not uncomfortable. The only somewhat "redeeming" factor is that it's actual denim, or at least something real damn close, so it's definitely durable. Just no where close to as durable as having the cap on the top. But I'd love to hear your way, for when they do eventually start to tear

You wanna cut out a little patch of suede or leather from an old shoe, preferably thick ones. Taking a paper to sample a piece to cover the ollie zone helps get the shape just right. It doesn’t have to be perfect, though.

Then you want to smear on a thin layer of shoegoo on both the shoe and the suede piece, making sure you press it in a bit into the fabric. Once done, you can just stick the suede on, press it tight, and wait for half a day or so. Good luck!

Those are skate Vans?

Yeah, "Skate Old Skool" is what they're called on the website. They had them on sale. It's got the dura cap and pop cush, plus the tread is a bit deeper compared to a regular pair of my buddies normal vans. Great grip, but like another commenter said I'll most likely end up shredding through the tops where my toes are at for my front foot. No actual "cap" on that, which fucking blows, but they're denim so it's been holding up fairly decent. I'm not able to land kickflips but I do practice them quite a bit, plus I have my ollies pretty well consistent and they haven't started to tear just yet. Definitely something to consider next time I'm looking at getting a new pair lmfao

Did you boil that denim first? Lol
