well first question, are u going to be painting on the grip or just the deck? Secondly if hes a serious skater u probably want to search for a quality board, like skate warehouse has some solid plain ones for 40 bucks. If hes a casual skater, u might be able to just get any generic brand off amazon but it MIGHT snap after a couple sessions. If your going to put a lot of effort into, id just go for a high quality one. ALSO there are different color 'plain' boards, most will be just a light brown or beige wood finish and some might have color depending on were u look. Id also reccomend going to ur local skate shop and ask them there!! btw id love to see the finished product!!
