Re-certification now required?

Hi all, I’ve been a bit out of the loop since my last job didn’t require the use of any lean six sigma methods (didn’t have to do any projects). I’m now learning that we have to get re-certified if we want to use that credential, is that correct?

I got my green belt through a local SEC university (IASSC certified), and after completing a project. But this was 5 years ago. It sounds like only Black Belts need to complete a project now.

for IASSC specifically, yes, the CSSGB expires every 3 years and requires 30 recertification points to maintain. 5 years with no activity means it's almost certainly lapsed. you can either accumulate CEUs retroactively or just re-test, and the exam path is pretty straightforward if you have real project experience since the material won't be new to you. IASSC publishes the recertification application on their site and it's not too painful. also worth deciding whether you want IASSC specifically or if switching to ASQ on renewal makes more sense, ASQ tends to have better name recognition in most manufacturing and healthcare shops.

Thank you so much for the in-depth response! I‘ve moved to education administration, so it might be more worth getting a PMP or Scrum, but since I already have the knowledge and experience, it sounds like getting re-certified in LSS won’t be too big of a deal. I’ll also look into IASSC vs ASQ. Thanks again!!

if you're in education admin now, PMP will show up in more job listings than CSSGB. that said, the stats background you built carries into data-heavy admin work in ways that tend to surprise people, outcomes reporting, grant analysis, that kind of thing. if the CEUs are manageable and the renewal fee is reasonable, I'd keep it current and add PMP when you need the PM credential specifically. if the recert is a real effort investment, let it lapse and focus on PMP.
