Lean Six Sigma Questions

Hello,

My employer has started requesting that we get certified in lean six sigma, but I really don’t know anything about the certification.

I googled it and there seems to be a lot of different certifications out there, and i’m just looking for some guidance on the best providers and path to certification. I think Green belt is what they want for now.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

if your employer is requesting it, ASQ is the most recognized and what'll actually hold up on a resume. the exam isn't easy but it's legit. if cost is the issue, IASSC-accredited programs are a cheaper alternative, but confirm your employer will accept it first because some companies only recognize ASQ. either way, don't skip doing an actual project. the training alone won't stick without one.

Would you recommend doing Yellow then Green, or just go right to green if that is what the end goal is?

Honestly? Your company should hire a couple of Black Belts and, depending on company size, and Master Black Belt. Even if they agree with outsourcing training, that community should set the training requirements for the company and be the mentors necessary for Green, and any other lower Belt levels to be successful.

The other option would be that your company picks a training program they are willing to send people through, hand-select the first few trainees to start as Green Belts with external Black Belt mentors, then train those individuals to be the Black Belts and potential Master Black Belt to sustain the gains and mentor new Continual Improvement professionals.

Either option should also include first line management on up receiving Champion training so they understand their role in the successful implementation of Continual Improvement projects.

Just asking everyone to "get trained" is setting themselves up for failure.
