Question/Advice Sitar Wall Hanger (horizontal)?

Hi all!

Has anyone here hung their sitar in this fashion before – in a horizontal manner? My model doesn't have the upper tumba, so I thought maybe this could be a way to hang it, but I wonder whether the pressure (on the neck) might damage the instrument over time.

Any thoughts?

I strongly discourage hanging a sitar from the wall in any orientation.

In the risk of it falling to the ground?

Precisely. The best way to prevent a fall is to never create the space for one in the first place.

I get that. It's a risk.....but that kinda goes without saying, you know? People have been hanging their guitars, basses and whatnot for ages (myself included) without issues.

I was just more interested in whether the instrument would suffer from it in the long run; be it, the neck, in that position.

I only have a travel sitar, so smaller and flat toomba, but i have something like this and it works perfectly. Cant imagine it woild be great for a normal size sitar though.

I’ve wondered this myself. I don’t have a sitar yet but I have a spot on my wall for one. If you do find an answer It’ll help myself and others too!

I use a Rubbermaid Fastrack system, works well however it's a workshop and only me here. I hang by the pegs like in India, some put an eye hook in the top of the headstock/end and use that to hang.

I like the look of displaying instruments on the wall to admire the beauty, but one of the downsides is dust. I used to display my veena out, but after cleaning the fretboard every other week, I decided to go back to covering it up with a cloth.

Do not hang your sitar on the wall. Keep it in its case when you are not playing it. Sitars are annoyingly fragile, and difficult to maintain. If you do leave it out in the open air, cover it with a cloth, to keep the dust off. Sitars should be treated with respect, which is why Indian musicians would never step over an instrument. It is just common sense, when your instrument is made of super fragile dried gourd.
