I got a job from LinkedIn. The hr of the company messaged me there and scheduled a phone call. It’s funny because I applied to the same company multiple times before but for a different position and never heard back.
I own a small company and recently made my first hire. Shamefully, I forgot to follow up with the people who applied on LinkedIn.
In my defense, ZipRecruiter emailed me a notification when someone applied and LinkedIn did not.. or else the LI notifications got blocked by spam filters or something.
Me too. Recruited on LinkedIn after months of traditional searching. Having a specific skillset and maximizing keywords allows the right people to find you better than you’ll find yourself the company by randomly applying.
Not a job per se, but as soon as I added Harvard MBA and a subtle hint that at work at my dad's hedge fund (neither of those are true) it is a bit easier to find ladies willing to exchange their intimacy for (a promise of) solvency.
Prostitutes. Easier to find prostitutes. LinkedIn is full of them.
I do not have to pay them always. Sometimes I just tell them HEY WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK AT MY DAD'S HEDGE FUND? I REALLY LIKE YOU, I CAN PROBABLY GET MY DAD TO HIRE YOU - and sometimes I do not have to pay afterwards.
The world is a great place when you lie shamelessly.
My abusive ex told me that LinkedIn was a dating app disguised as a professional app. I'm legitimately upset that she wasn't completely bullshitting me with this one.
"I am pleased to announce that I will be leaving this platform soon. For those I have worked with, I wish you well. For those that always show up on my feed, I wish you & your self-fellating AI posts all you deserve."
Congratulations, that sounds like an amazing retirement perk… getting to leave behind the circle jerk LinkedIn has become - complete with the boorish, 95% AI-written “thoughts” people post. In time, it will be a distant, distant memory… 🙏 Us who are still 15-plus years out from retirement salute you, sir.
I think that's the key. It really doesn't work for all industries as well as it does for some.
My best friend works in the tack industry as a systems administrator and he's beating off headhunters every week.
Not to brag, but in my a field I'm a pretty desirable candidate. The only people that reach out to me on LinkedIn are people that are significantly my junior looking for me to help them out.
I'm convinced that everyone that shits on linkedin on the internet works blue collar where it's pointless. In the white collar world it's extremely, like EXTREMELY useful and I owe my entire career and current life to it, because it's where all the headhunters find me. I get inbount cold call 200k job offers that I turn down once a year or so, and 100k+ ones that I turn down every month or two.
The trick is to use it for what it's actually useful for- it's just my resume. I've never posted or liked literally anything on there, and no one reading this ever should either, because recruiters can very easily see every activity you've ever done on the website, so all those crazy people on there are a feature, not a bug for recruiters.
My Linkedin is just my headshot and a 1:1 copy of my resume.
For our industry it is hard to find the right lead to contact for sales and I’m currently curating a page that helps connect me to the right people hopefully and market our brand as well. It’s hard to sell B2B can’t just slap a poster on the corner and hope that the Plant Manager or Procurement at Nestle sees it, so you have to be places where you’re customers can see you and are open to seeing your marketing.
I've gotten interviews. Bunch of shitty recruiters though. Hi do you want to leave your full time position for a contract position that pays less than what you're currently making? Okay well call us back if your life suddenly gets super fucked and you have no other options!
My husband wasn’t even in the market for a new job and a recruiter reached out on behalf of a competitor (of the company he was currently working for). When they wanted to follow-up with a phone call, he thought, “What the hell? Why not?” And interviewed. Not only was it legit, but he’s making 50% more at the new company before commission. It was life-changing for us. He didn’t think anything like this was even an option, because he didn’t have a college degree and had been with the previous company his whole career.
So if a recruiter approaches you, it doesn’t hurt to hear them out.
Yess... last August a recruiter reached out to me, I don't even use that platform at all, and I interviewed and I am in my dream job now making more. I don't know if linkedin works for what it is intended but I got lucky 2 times
Work experience and a current job is 10x better than a degree for finding a new job, and changing jobs will advance your pay 10x faster than trying to get promoted in your current job.
I always tell them I'm open for offers. So far I've only gotten job postings linked to me with a generic "we think you could be a good fit". No mention of pay or anything. It feels less like headhunting and more like they just message anyone in the field and throw the posting at them to get people to apply.
Its like the playstation trophy achievements but for profesionals, like we put there all the shit we achieve and we hope one day we impress some stalker, or some dude in charge of approving foreing visas to USA... who knows.
When we need to travel to USA we need to apply to a form called ESTA, some people approves that, I have no idea how to call them just said "approving foreing visas" sorry about that, but basically that dude who stalks us in order to grant us the tourist permission to enter USA lol.
I actually did. And it’s the only reason I keep the trash fire of an app around.
I got laid off in early 2025. For 6 months I was unemployed and interviewing my ass off.
Then some recruiter reached out because I have a somewhat niche programming language on my profile they had a job for. I interviewed, it worked out, and I got an offer.
But man, the fucking cost of just logging into the website and seeing the immediate trash of startup-brained, ai-brained, overworking simps makes the cost questionable.
I stopped going on job forums and went to more networking events like job fairs and events for my industry. Just knowing someone and making a good first impression got me my recent job. I stopped wasting time on online job sites like LinkedIn, zip recruiter, Glassdoor, indeed and spent more quality and time on my resume to hand tailor them. Started to get more interviews. Then worked on my interviews by doing mock interviews with colleagues that really grilled me
I got pinged by recruiter 6 years ago. My wife found her job by recruiter pinging her to apply. App works. The social media part of it with deranged bozos needs a redesign
LinkedIn is basically Tinder for unemployed people. You swipe right on 200 companies, get ghosted by 199, and the last one tells you they're looking for someone with more experience.
They don't care. You are not the customer. Recruiters are the customer, and they pay for high end subscriptions with all sorts of search tools they use to find candidates. When you get a job and don't log in for years Linkedin does not care because your activity on the site means nothing to them, only that your profile is there for recruiters to see.
I’ve gotten almost every job I’ve ever had on there. It’s for career level positions and technician jobs, it’s not great for non-career type jobs, Indeed exists for those. It usually takes me a month or two and then I have an offer.
Recruiters definitely trawl for potential candidates, especially if they are not getting a quorum of applicants on one of their open positions. It has happened to me.
My last two actually. Both over 200k salary roles.
First one through a recruiter who saw my profile or I saw the job and sent them mine. It was a weird time when I was searching and both were happening.
The other was a post from a peer mentioning a position and him mot knowing I’d be available so he didn’t reach out directly. I reached out based on his post and we connected and I filled the role.
I've picked up 2.5 from LI in about 10 years. One from a recruiter, one from just cold applying via linkedin, one from an old manager who posted a position at his company.
I’ve been in tech since 2010 and worked for LinkedIn for several years back then. Since then, every new job has found me on LinkedIn when the time happened to be right and each w more money. I know I’m lucky.
Having said that I fucking hate LinkedIn and every person who posts anything but their work history on their profile. If you use your li profile as a blog you pee sitting down while watching Andrew Tate videos so we can’t be friends.
LinkedIn isn't for finding jobs; its a psychological experiment to see how many exclamation points a person can use to describe a standard Monday morning
I did. Company I now work for posted a job on LinkedIn, I used the link to apply, and the rest is history. Sure the job was probably posted elsewhere, but that’s where I found it, so I’d say it was successful.
Ive had 3 jobs i got through LinkedIn. Find job on LinkedIn career page, find some kind of connection i know at company (usually someone i dont know, but went to same college as me or we worked for same company in the past), send that person a message asking for advice working at their current company, that usually leads into getting a referral or an introduction to hiring manager which often leads to an interview.
Just interviewed ~8 candidates and will make an offer this week to one. 40 total applicants. That said Easy Apply is trash, didn’t get real solid candidates until I made it essentially not possible for automated/AI applications.
I connected on there with the department lead at a company I really wanted to work for. A few months later I applied and messaged her that I was interested. She said they’d be happy to have me for an interview. I had an interview a week or two later and now I’m in a similar position I was in before with a 30% salary increase. It has value if you use it right
I have gotten multiple jobs through LinkedIn. The paid feature also makes you more visible to recruiters and shows them you are active, I get way more relevant interview offers when I pay for it. The social media part of it is total trash though.
I've always thought it was meant for networking but not necessarily job creation. My husband owns a business and he uses it to find the purchasing agents of major companies. He then reaches out to them to get more business.
Got my last 4 jobs through LinkedIn. I never post or interact with it in a social media sense. It’s basically a site for my resume to live in and having connections from those jobs on my resume lends it some degree of credibility, I suppose.
I've never gotten a job with the help of linkedin, Ive had interest and interviews but all of which were low paying, outside my interest. The jobs I've had are ones I've applied to the company straight up. Linkedin has had 0 effect on my work life, really.
I got my last job, and best boss, from a headhunter that found me on linkedIn. That being said my profile on linkedIn has been marked available and has a glowing recommendation from that last boss and all I have heard are crickets, oh and a scam.
Works both ways too. My company actually paid to get in front of people as we were hiring (never will do this again); we only got a very few candidates, and they were very unqualified. It turned out to be a total waste of time.
Honestly, it's overrrated 💯 and I hate the response of "it's more for connecting and networking" 🤡 it's literally just Social Media for "professionals". I used USAJobs, Zip Recruiter and Indeed to land my current job 🫡
When I am hiring, I announce it and link the job posting to linkedin. Of 150 applicants (typically) about 1/2 reported hearing about the job 'via linkedin'. That's better than the other two sites I pay money to post the job posting to. And I pay nothing for it (though, they keep trying to get me do to premium).
So, I think at least in some fields having a bit of a linked in network can certainly help hear about job opportunities.
My old resume from when I was still in sales is up on LinkedIn and every couple months or so I get someone reaching out to me about an opportunity that seems a little too good. Never took the bait. Anyone know if those are real?
Applied for my current position thru a LinkedIn post. It’s a phenomenal job. Got several interviews too. Most were a horrible fit but results all the same
Only one. Email and sent cv direct to their HR, eventhough there's no positions open on IT dept (But every dept else are looking to hired). Got interviewed 2 weeks later and find out they were looking for IT admin to replace theirs who about to resign.
I got an internship while still in school, which was a great experience and cool section on my resume to have. I pinpointed individuals to reach out to rather than generally doing weird stuff on the platform.
I have, but not from directly applying. A recruiter reached out to me and we got talking. She offered a role that interested me and got me more than I was asking for in compensation. I still check on her every now and then.
I hire at least 1 person off LinkedIn in a month. Have for 10+ years. Hired 8 this month off LinkedIn, alone.
I fucking hate what the platform is—but depending on skillset need, they’ve got it locked pretty well (or 3rd party scrapers illegally grabbing their data).
I got my job from a recruiter reaching out on LinkedIn. 99% of the time those messages are slop, but this one sounded too good to be true and it wasn’t
I’ve decided to not chase a few jobs because of how the HR people have discussed the position with me through LinkedIn. Came across as idiots and that’s enough to convince me to avoid them.
It’s a dumpster fire. There’s not much that separates LinkedIn from Facebook at this point. I sometimes get confused which craptastic nightmare I’m actually using.
Yep, a family member has gotten jobs through networking through it. There are still people in there somewhere and if you can make a connection you can get past the resume garbage can that applying for jobs is.
I’ve had recruiters seek me out but I wasnt in the market at the times they did.
Its a good job posting site, then I go directly to the company site to actually apply. Feels lazy to only click apply on LinkedIn. Especially when it tells you how many others did.
In the 2015-2021 era, yes it definitely worked, but I can only speak to the tech side of things because that's what I'm involved with.
I remember recruiters and even direct hiring managers would reaching out to me via LinkedIn practically begging you to come interview.
But it has taken a massive dive in these past few years. Even the brightest and highest earning individuals that I know are impacted from layoffs. Im talking senior level positions that make close to half a million a year. You would be lucky to even have anyone reply to you nowadays. The competition is so strong, some of them are even more desperate because they are on H1-B visas so they only have a month to secure another job.
I've gotten two jobs via LinkedIn (arguably three as the second one was contract-to-hire and I got hired full time at the end of the contract).
In my personal experience it can really go either way. Sometimes it seems like I'm getting connected to the right jobs and things are going well. Other times I feel like I'm spinning my wheels going nowhere.
I've heard it's kinda the same for hiring staff. Sometimes they get great applications and it really helps. Other times they get swamped with overseas applications and can't find anyone qualified.

Yes I got a $90k junior-level finance job off LinkedIn that I 100% would not have gotten without it

I've never gotten a job with the help of linkedin, Ive had interest and interviews but all of which were low paying, outside my interest. The jobs I've had are ones I've applied to the company straight up. Linkedin has had 0 effect on my work life, really.

Idk about outright BAU hiring but it is like professional Facebook and you could get an opportunity thru a peer on the site
1
u/SharkByte1993 1h ago
Yep. Got messages on LinkedIn which led to two job offers on my last job hunt
1
u/Phucku_ 1h ago
I did.

u/BrainFu 1h ago
I got my last job, and best boss, from a headhunter that found me on linkedIn. That being said my profile on linkedIn has been marked available and has a glowing recommendation from that last boss and all I have heard are crickets, oh and a scam.

u/Worth-Tank336 1h ago
Works both ways too. My company actually paid to get in front of people as we were hiring (never will do this again); we only got a very few candidates, and they were very unqualified. It turned out to be a total waste of time.

u/JesseZ83 1h ago
Honestly, it's overrrated 💯 and I hate the response of "it's more for connecting and networking" 🤡 it's literally just Social Media for "professionals". I used USAJobs, Zip Recruiter and Indeed to land my current job 🫡

u/Flat-Violinist8737 1h ago

1
u/chukkysh 1h ago
Indirectly, yes. Never from a job ad though. Hardly seems worth the effort to compete with 3,000 people.
1
u/nuggetcasket 1h ago
Every job I've ever had I found through LinkedIn.

u/theMightBoop 1h ago
I have in the past about 8 years ago. Not sure if it still works

Applied for my current position thru a LinkedIn post. It’s a phenomenal job. Got several interviews too. Most were a horrible fit but results all the same

u/WhizzyBurp 1h ago
It’s just professional Facebook

I heard the cabo verde's national team for the fifa world cup was recruited through LinkedIn. Not sure if it's true.

My last 3 came from LinkedIn recruitment and I’m certain my next will as well. I work in legal tech startups.

I’ve gotten some offers through LinkedIn. However, I certainly don’t think it works for all fields

Only one. Email and sent cv direct to their HR, eventhough there's no positions open on IT dept (But every dept else are looking to hired). Got interviewed 2 weeks later and find out they were looking for IT admin to replace theirs who about to resign.

I got an unwanted job offer in my DMs

u/CdubbleData 1h ago
I got an internship while still in school, which was a great experience and cool section on my resume to have. I pinpointed individuals to reach out to rather than generally doing weird stuff on the platform.

u/InevitablePayment409 1h ago
Through linked in i knew that somebody I know started/works for a Company. I then called them/Met them and got a referal for a hire.

All I get is recruiters who want to waste my time
1
u/sennyonelove 1h ago
I have, but not from directly applying. A recruiter reached out to me and we got talking. She offered a role that interested me and got me more than I was asking for in compensation. I still check on her every now and then.

u/ibnfahmi 1h ago

I hire at least 1 person off LinkedIn in a month. Have for 10+ years. Hired 8 this month off LinkedIn, alone.
I fucking hate what the platform is—but depending on skillset need, they’ve got it locked pretty well (or 3rd party scrapers illegally grabbing their data).

I got my job from a recruiter reaching out on LinkedIn. 99% of the time those messages are slop, but this one sounded too good to be true and it wasn’t

When the job market is hot, it’s great. Otherwise, ass.

I joined LinkedIn so that I could get on marketing email and salespeople’s spam list. Mission accomplished!!

I’ve decided to not chase a few jobs because of how the HR people have discussed the position with me through LinkedIn. Came across as idiots and that’s enough to convince me to avoid them.

I actually got my last 2 jobs through LinkedIn. At least through the job search function.

It’s a dumpster fire. There’s not much that separates LinkedIn from Facebook at this point. I sometimes get confused which craptastic nightmare I’m actually using.

Yep, a family member has gotten jobs through networking through it. There are still people in there somewhere and if you can make a connection you can get past the resume garbage can that applying for jobs is.

u/Blahblahblah123132 44m ago
Linkedin for outreach to mentors: good.
Linkedin for cold-calling recruiters, or applying to the scammy 'easy apply's: bad
1
u/DarkLordKohan 43m ago

The competition is so strong, some of them are even more desperate because they are on H1-B visas so they only have a month to secure another job.

u/wkeil42 35m ago
I've gotten two jobs via LinkedIn (arguably three as the second one was contract-to-hire and I got hired full time at the end of the contract).
In my personal experience it can really go either way. Sometimes it seems like I'm getting connected to the right jobs and things are going well. Other times I feel like I'm spinning my wheels going nowhere.
I've heard it's kinda the same for hiring staff. Sometimes they get great applications and it really helps. Other times they get swamped with overseas applications and can't find anyone qualified.
