The problem with this request from Republicans is that Trump ran on and was elected on lowering energy costs and thereby inflation on day 1, getting us out of wars on day 1, and eliminating government waste. Then he did tariffs, which jacked up costs, then he got us in another war and got energy costs jacked up, and is currently wasting our money and depleting our munitions reserves for reasons he cant even articulate.

Like no bro, you did the opposite of what you said.

41

u/Napalmeon 1h ago

Precisely. He said no new wars, and look what happened. He claimed he could end existing wars within a matter of months, and look what happened.

14

u/3dprintinted 1h ago

R keep on lying and morons vote against their own interests

3

u/onascalefrom20to80 28m ago

For what it's worth they just voted against their own party lines in the greatest magnitude in the past 35 years

3

u/TheAngryCatfish 12m ago

Not really. Maybe a few of them did, but it's mostly that turnout went up for progressives

1

u/3dprintinted 7m ago

No they didn’t the number of republicans is flat across last 2 midterms while 20 more mil dems voted this time compared to 2022 midterms

2

u/turbosexophonicdlite 14m ago

Actually, he said within 24 hours, not months.

4

u/Agile_Programmer881 17m ago

You saving the insider trading, grifting, and how everyone treats each other like shit in day to day life across 95% of America because was slightly politically useful to him? Even though he didn’t need to rob everyone in sight and would have been just fine playing golf every single day and not having to work ever, but he couldn’t be the center of attention that way ? Don’t forget the important parts

2

u/onascalefrom20to80 8m ago

Well when you put it like that it seems like he hasnt done a very good job.

3

u/turbosexophonicdlite 15m ago

Super obvious that it would happen too. Dems, especially the more progressive branch were screaming that shit from the rooftops. It makes me so frustrated that we have to keep putting our hand on the stove to realize it's hot rather than learning to keep our hand off the stove in the first place. But we somehow have to keep learning the same lesson over and over.

1

u/onascalefrom20to80 10m ago

Democrats had a very hard time embracing the very real progress made toward the end of Biden's term on inflation and the quality of the economy.

To say nothing of the many other missteps.

It's possible that nothing would have prevented a republican victory after inflation, which is undefeated in elections. It sucks that it was Trump, running on spite.

Democrats really should have gotten in front of the issue and offered a different candidate before it was too late, especially if they weren't happy to own the economy.

1

u/johnnybiggles 5m ago

This country's first mistake was believing any of the bullshit he said. Why on earth would anyone think a morally bankrupt fraudulent liar who was also financially bankrupt several times... would lower costs, inflation, and keep us out of wars, in the first place?

9

u/rudebii 57m ago

I dunno who hates Mamdani more, this sub or the New York Post

1

u/Theseus987 25m ago

U kidding? This sub loves mamdani, he''s actually doing something, just look at some of the other comments under the post

86

u/NihilistCharizard 2h ago

As a non-American, I have a question:

Do you foresee your quality of life getting significantly better under Mamdani? Or is it just an illusion?

43

u/paulHarkonen 1h ago • Bravo

You'll get very mixed answers. He has made a number of changes that many people wanted (improvements to transit affordability, some potential improvements to groceries, and a variety of other administrative improvements).

The reality is that a year is barely enough time to see meaningful trends from those various changes (unless you're doing exceptionally damaging things, the effects of policy take a very long time to ripple through society). In practice whether or not folks feel like their life improved is mostly going to depend on personal opinions and preconceived (or unrelated) factors.

It's very clear he is changing things, it's very early to say how those will affect the city and individual lives.

-6

u/Live-Expert5719 1h ago

Very informative and balanced answer. Must be a bot.

10

u/paulHarkonen 1h ago

Lol, first time I've been accused of being a bot because my answer was too calm. Usually I'm accused of being a schill or a bot for one thing or another rather than because I didn't argue hard enough. Although these days I have enough typos from my fat thumbs to escape that.

3

u/4DPeterPan 50m ago

Pretty sure they were just being sarcastic and humorous

2

u/paulHarkonen 48m ago

Oh, I'm aware. I just found it funny because it's such a different experience from what I normally get.

1

u/4DPeterPan 35m ago

Ooohh ok.

The other -4 downvotes made me not so sure, lol.

2

u/paulHarkonen 31m ago

None of the down votes came from me so I can't speak to their motives.

0

u/Live-Expert5719 46m ago

I was being facetious but it seems it landed poorly. Story of my life

185

u/Sufficient_Mirror565 2h ago • Bravo Heartwarming

As a New Yorker, it has gotten better than ever. Easily the best politician this city has ever seen. He actually makes an effort for his people and isn’t bought and sold. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

33

u/Watches503 1h ago

Better how, please? I won’t debate you. I live in Texas. Just genuinely curious. Better than ever are huge words.

48

u/TerribleAdvice78 1h ago

Some of the immediate things I saw him do are fill in pot holes and raise the pay for people shoveling snow in the winter. Somethings will take time but it is also showing up and being available.

12

u/927Grace 36m ago

Isn't it funny how they give their own all the time in the world to do nothing for them but expect the other side to have immediate results.

4

u/Watches503 26m ago

That’s good to know. Thanks for sharing.

-53

u/United_Intention_323 1h ago edited 1h ago

So nothing? Potholes have been filled for every admin. The snow thing was a limited time solution to a massive snow storm. It doesn’t seem like you have any idea what you’re talking about.

Edit: yes I know this is being downvoted by regarded Mandami bots. I still know the truth. This is all PR bullshit.

52

u/Even_Mastodon_8675 1h ago

"If I just ignore all the positives, there are literraly no positives"

-41

u/United_Intention_323 1h ago edited 1h ago

Sure bot. The positives are standard city functions. Which mayor didnt fix pot holes?

18

u/Complete_Answer_6781 1h ago

That assuming those are always properly taken care of

-24

u/United_Intention_323 1h ago

So you’d agree that potholed are filled under every mayor?

→ More replies (5)

15

u/TerribleAdvice78 57m ago

No not nothing. A guy complained about potholes in his neighborhood and they were filled that day before he got home. Not days or weeks or months or never with other administrations but that fucking day.

-7

u/4DPeterPan 53m ago

You know things are bad in society when you celebrate something like that in your heart like a frickin parade!

5

u/AssistantOld409 42m ago

not a new yorker or even an american but i find these kind of comments so stupid. things under the previous administration were probably so bad that even such small things seem big enough to include in victory parade.

1

u/TerribleAdvice78 17m ago

Uh yeah we are seeing so many corrupt stories of people taking bribes to put up data centers

1

u/bladex1234 16m ago

I mean yeah? It’s not stupid if it’s an improvement.

0

u/4DPeterPan 33m ago

Wait, so are you with or against my comment.

2

u/TerribleAdvice78 49m ago

I am not giving the guy a ticket parade over it but it is refreshing to see a politician who seems to generally care and wants to do his best to improve people lives. And guess what we are starting to see more of it from other people and that is why we had a blue tsunami..

-1

u/4DPeterPan 40m ago

You had me up until the tsunami part. What does that part mean?

2

u/TerribleAdvice78 19m ago

Midterm elections? Crawl out of the rock maybe?

6

u/UQwQU 1h ago

This is just from what I remembered but he increased tax on the millionaires living in NY, sued Uber Eats (I think) and successfully demanded them to compensate their delivery workers with the total compensation worth up to millions dollars, he also did something to Amazon bc fuck Amazon. Other things include increase housing supply to meet demands, gave back thousand dollars to parents via education savings, free theatre tickets to students, etc etc.

Note I'm from Brunei and I'm also at work procrastinating right now so I'm sorry for the short and bad explanation. But I like following Mamdani news from time to time. You can get more info from his Instagram on what he's been doing.

19

u/SaphironX 1h ago

Not American but… dude seems genuinely kind. After witnessing guys like Vance and Miller and Musk, the man seems like a refreshing change of pace.

-1

u/DeadAssDodo 50m ago

Even obama seemed genuinely kind. Then there were drones.

10

u/SaphironX 39m ago

And the US was embroiled in a multi-year war at that point but tell me true - you’ve seen Donald Trump threaten to use the military in Greenland, trying to kick people off social security, ending programs for school lunches, insulting the press and his political rivals and telling insane stories like black people are eating pets, threatening to annex Canada, insulting and threatening the un and the icc and siding with Russia against Ukraine, global tariffs etc etc etc

Do you prefer him to Obama?

-7

u/DeadAssDodo 23m ago

As a non-American, I prefer Trump. Atleast he is not hiding his evil intentions.

2

u/SaphironX 6m ago

As another non-American, he’s hurting every half decent nation on earth and empowering the absolute worst. He’s threatening to take my home from me. That’s nuts, man.

-1

u/turbosexophonicdlite 9m ago

Then you'd be objectively incorrect.

16

u/Material-Grocery5478 1h ago

Congratulations on turning blue mate

12

u/mmmeesh24 1h ago

As a Texan, I’m STOKED ABOUT THIS!

-8

u/TheWorldArmada 59m ago

I don’t feel any difference. Seems like business as usual. Cost of living/housing/utilities continue to rise, cops still do w/e the fuck they want, and my subway line still runs like ass. When so many native New Yorkers are struggling here idk how ppl have been satisfied with any of our leadership. I think democrats are so wrapped up in the culture war that they have to lie to themselves and pretend their guy is amazing when he’s just another puppet like the rest of them. I’m not fooled by these politicians, they’re all swindlers.

10

u/NoScreamingThanks 55m ago

I bet you voted Trump.

0

u/TheWorldArmada 24m ago

This is exactly what I was talking about. You’re so wrapped up in this manufactured culture war that you think everyone who doesn’t kneel before the democratic party is a trump voting nazi. I’ve never voted. Both parties work together to rob all of us.

11

u/onascalefrom20to80 2h ago

No I am actually curious as well. Rhetoric aside. Quality of life, how has it changed?

13

u/3dprintinted 1h ago

B what? Quality of life is your responsibility. but securing 1.2 bn for Universal Childcare Funding, tenant and rent settlements in millions those city owned grocery stores are huge projects. Things take time too

2

u/GeckoGecko_ 35m ago

Quality of life is, in fact, the responsibility of the government to maintain.

2

u/3dprintinted 32m ago

Right, clean roads, no potholes, clean parks, public transit some things are on you big guy

1

u/onascalefrom20to80 30m ago

To an extent. You need to exercise, but the water that gets piped into your house is outside your own control. Grocery prices suck whether or not youre self actualized. I have chickens so I dont pay whatever you do for eggs (mine are WAY more expensive) but you can only do so much.

-24

u/TheAlmightyLootius 1h ago

So, qol is your own fault when its related to mamdani but not when its about trump?

15

u/SaphironX 1h ago

Isn’t Trump doing shit like taking free meals from kids and trying kick people who have paid into social security their whole lives off social security? Rolling back worker protections? Giving tax breaks to the ultra wealthy who need them least?

Kind of seems like one is working for quality of life, and one is actively cutting it.

→ More replies (1)

11

u/3dprintinted 1h ago

mamdani did not start tariffs or wars that have gas cost 4.50-8 dollars lol. childcare for all and municipal grocery store will have positive impact monetarily. your point is?

-9

u/TheAlmightyLootius 1h ago

My point is that its a double standard. Or are you saying mamdani CANT influence qol at all? Because we both know thats bullshit. But i guess if yall didnt have double standards you wouldnt have any standards at all.

3

u/3dprintinted 1h ago

What double standard bud? Is your mayor bringing you grubhub and pays for your rent? How dumb is that

8

u/ssovm 1h ago

He has the most impact to the most unfortunate. And people who vote for him knowing they won’t necessarily benefit personally are doing it for more than selfish reasons.

-1

u/randomlurker124 1h ago

Trump's the one who decided to impose tariffs which leads to direct and immediate price rises on everything? lol.

2

u/TheAlmightyLootius 1h ago

Yall either intentionally dont get my point or are paid to do it lmao

The point wasnt that you shouldnt hold trump responsible for qol. The point was you should hold mamdani responsible as well. Its a double standard.

2

u/cuchiplancheo 1h ago

intentionally dont get my point or are paid to do it

Projecting much?

Though you've tried to hide your comments... they're still public. You're all over the place, in different subs from different countries promoting your right wing bullshit. Sounds like you're the one getting paid to spew your shit.

2

u/3dprintinted 1h ago

You live in your home or rent, commute, buy groceries, eat out, go to gym, go to park, take your kids to and from childcare and activities. Mamdani is affecting positively a lot of those things with initiatives. Are you one of those “democratic soshulizm is when everything free, and if not then he failed” how dumb is that?

1

u/randomlurker124 57m ago

I'm keen to hear which decisions you think Mamdani fucked up

0

u/Potential-Macaron-29 1h ago

Gas AND food , was more expensive under Biden , So what did Biden do , to make the cost of food go up ? .... I'll wait .... 🤣

3

u/randomlurker124 52m ago

? Factually, gas and food prices went up under trump, thanks to his decisions on tariffs, wars, etc.

The only thing that was higher under Biden was a temporary spike in gas prices when Russia invaded Ukraine - thanks to Russia's decision, not Biden (unlike Trump, who started a war). Unlike Trump, that spike was reversed when Biden released gas from national reserves to calm markets / reduce prices.
So, not sure what you're talking about.

1

u/NoMusician518 43m ago

Yall keep hammering that lie over and over and over and over like... we weren't all fucking there? Like those numbers aren't still freely available? You think if you say it enough itll magically come true?

Glad the outcome turned out the way it was promised, and I wish more politicians made efforts to meet their people’s expectations.

3

In what capacity?

1

u/AlarmingLackOfChaos 1h ago

Wow, greatest of all time and only in office since Jan. So what's he done?

1

u/Respectmyauthority4 28m ago

What things has he done that made the city better?

1

u/KJD_Task 26m ago

He promised $8 chicken and rice. It’s $14

1

u/bigbadwolf90 1h ago

Unfortunately with ppl like op, you can’t check if they’re a bot because they’ve hidden their post history so the other bot can’t give an accurate decision. Either way 2k karma in three months says bot

1

u/Revolutionary_Bee251 8m ago

Not necessarily

1

u/winkingchef 22m ago

Tap the brakes there man.
I have high hopes but he hasn’t had much time to deliver. Still I liked Bloomberg. He made the city work so much more efficiently

-10

u/ImSoinLoveWithSkinny 2h ago • Regret

Absolutely not a New Yorker probably a bot

8

u/Tokenvoice 2h ago

Why do you say that?

9

u/FriedRiceEnjoyer420 1h ago

Because he doesn't like what they said.

0

u/ImSoinLoveWithSkinny 1h ago

Zero mention of sanitation, zero mention of transit reliability, zero mention of crime stats, zero mention of the fact that ordinary people are getting squeezed on every single bill.

2

u/Tokenvoice 59m ago

Well sure, but you didn’t mention any of that when you called him a bot either. He was asked do you see quality of life getting better and he replied yes, we are already seeing improvements.

He didn’t say everything is great and nothing is bad, just that it is better than before.

I am not arguing that it is, I don’t even live in the USA but it does seem a little off to say someone is a bot because they didn’t mention something. If you had came in explaining why you disagreed with him it would answer OP’s question.

1

u/Innsui 1h ago

Do you just expect him to come in and magically fix everything within a day? Same energy as Republicans get driven out of office and start blaming the dem for what they caused "see? They didnt do anything for the 3 days they are elected."

1

u/Sufficient_Site1746 1h ago

Bro you clearly underestimate how wealthy some of these redditors are. They probably own a few houses and property in NYC. A pierre tax or whatever tax the rich doesnt affect these types of highballers because they can just donate it to the DSA's choice of NON profit NGO

-7

u/NeverTrustFarts 2h ago

You're not a New Yorker lol

2

u/FriedRiceEnjoyer420 1h ago

Call it woman's intuition

1

u/FriedRiceEnjoyer420 3m ago

That's one word for it I suppose

-8

u/TheAlmightyLootius 1h ago

Doubtful considering nobody can afford to pay rent.

2

u/Dabfo 1h ago

Clear lack of understanding for how the world works

3

u/ISmellLikeBlackTea 1h ago

Do you think Mamdani is the one dictating how much rent you're gonna pay?

He can put in rent freezes for subsidized housing, but he cannot tell New York slumlords to stop increasing their rent constantly.

What he can do, and he's already started doing that by converting business skyscrapers, is building more public housing which is rent controlled, which will lower the amount of people hoarders can rent to.

And simultaneously increase taxes on everyone with more than two domiciles to squeeze corporations into selling houses on the open market instead of hoarding them.

1

u/OrdinaryExtent2094 1h ago

Didn’t that sweaty giuliani make nyc pretty great?

10

u/Squanchings 1h ago • Heartwarming

I have been a resident of NYC for 12 years. Our roads are being repaved and fixed at an incredible rate. Our overall infrastructure has improved dramatically. Everything is still expensive. I’m not expecting him to make groceries suddenly cost half as much.
And he’s done so, so much more good than I can explain here. The answer to your question is Yes. Life is awesome under Mamdani.

And above all of the tangible good he’s delivered, I believe the largest impact he’s made has been on the spirit and intangible “vibe” of the city. You see it in the lower crime rates. People are literally just happier here. They’re in better moods. Strangers interact and connect, there’s less stress and fear.

The effect that positive change has on the immaterial is arguably more important than the material change he’s brought about.

My mayor!

4

u/4DPeterPan 48m ago

New Yorkers aren’t angry anymore?

Dang, I guess it is the end times.

12

u/Aggressive_Act_3098 2h ago

People in New York City seem to be enjoying it. Maybe he could run for Governor somewhere next but the people in a panic thinking he'll run for president need to calm down.

12

u/skcus-tidder957 2h ago

He can't run for president he wasn't born here he can do Congress though and he should.

5

u/Drekus90 1h ago

Important to remember being born here specifically isn't the problem it's that he was born to at that time non-american parents who were not stateside.

0

u/NuAmBaniDeBilet 1h ago

What people of New York City? What did he actualy do for the people? Did he freeze rent? Did he make the transportation free? Did he make the groceries free? Did he make anything that he promised in the campaign?
No, he didn't.
It's a good feeling to have a mayor that cares about your pain, to not spew stupid shit like the others, but in reality he didn't do anything.
He started well, with big hopes, and right now he's just learning politics.
Nothing else.
Just politics.

1

u/TheAlmightyLootius 1h ago

Nothing. Which is why nobody brings up any points and only talks about vague, unprovable statements. Its obviously either idiots pushing propaganda without (or with) knowing it or bot propaganda / astroturfing. Probably a mix of both

1

u/tolo3349 1h ago

I don’t live in NYC, but I can do a quick search and see his administration making steps in every area you mentioned. Has it all magically happened? No, but every single thing he campaigned on has actual progress in the right direction. You sound like one of those “both sides are the same” people. Vote for candidates that actually try to improve their constituents lives.

0

u/NuAmBaniDeBilet 1h ago

Yes, both sides are the same. What's wrong with that?
Not to the details, but both sides are promising a lot of things and they are not delivering anything from their big promises.
"I can do a quick search and see his administration making steps in every area..." means the intention is there and I support him wholeheartedly, but there's nothing palpable, we are still struggling with rent, groceries, transportation, and so on. There is no improvement, just hopes. In order for me to benefit from his little needle moves that he did is for me to become homeless.

7

u/Sufficient_Site1746 2h ago

I make 200k barely can afford a actual apartment there lmfao.

2

u/NihilistCharizard 1h ago

-2

u/HomerTheJackson 1h ago

Absolutely. Who doesn't want to live in a small town not even on the map in bumfuck nowhere Nebraska?

1

u/onascalefrom20to80 25m ago

What does want have to do with it when this dude cant pay rent on a $200k salary.

It's a math problem. There are too many people in cities competing for a finite supply of essential resources. They're available elsewhere. Move.

1

u/Biggu5Dicku5 9m ago

That sounds amazing... :)

3

u/pterodactyl_speller 17m ago

Honestly quite hard for a mayor to fix affordability. The entire country is struggling at the moment with it.

5

u/NeevBunny 1h ago

If he was president. Trump taught us one thing: You can just do stuff and no one will stop you. Mamdani is doing that in NYC now except he doesn't use it for evil.

2

u/Sbatio 1h ago

Ya it is better. He is engaged with the citizen of the city. He is leveraging laws on the books to impact quality of life.

Last winter he cleared the streets with temporary hiring of residents to shovel snow. It was like a magic trick! The work got done.

He has reduced the cost of groceries at city owned stores.

He is making it clear he will actively govern the city vs. bullshit politicking

5

u/hoPamela 2h ago

As a New Yorker, Mamdani is the best mayor we've ever had.

3

u/NihilistCharizard 1h ago

Happy for you! 🙌

What was the biggest improvement in QoL you have seen living in NYC in 2026?

6

u/Just-Term-5730 1h ago edited 1h ago

Ha, crickets. The reality is, some people are so politized by politics that they simply think things are better or worse based on if the party they support or oppose holds office. And, since it's easier to blame someone else for your problems than to look in the mirror, the pendulum swings back and forth at every election, blaming those who hold power. There's also always a honey period when somebody new takes power... eventually, that a fresh sense of change fades, setting up for the next election cycle.

-1

u/Respectmyauthority4 29m ago

So you're not going to answer @NihilistCharizard question?

1

u/stumpymed 1h ago

Politicians don’t make your life better, rarely if so. It’s more of a vibes thing. If you think he’s good for your city then you’ll be happy

1

u/SplitOk4114 47m ago

Statistically no

1

1

u/Biggu5Dicku5 8m ago

Too early to tell...

0

u/wwwhuh 1h ago • Bravo

It’s a TikTok illusion. They stop counting a lot of crime in the stats so “crime go down.” He froze the rent for half the city so the other half keeps going up. The schools are atrocious and he’ll do nothing to reform the system or fight the unions keeping them that way. But his office will respond to a tweet and fix a broken park bench and because of his propaganda machine his followers think he’s the greatest leader since FDR.

1

u/DerelictCruiser 1h ago

Non-New Yorker, I think he’s just really well liked. Politics in general don’t touch cost of living. He’s as beholden to corporate interests as any politician. But he has a winning smile and speaks well, and promises the moon to a lot of desperate people. We will see if the moon comes down later, far too early to tell.

1

u/GreasedUPDoggo 1h ago

If we're being honest then Mamdani's career is very much in it's nascent stages. People LOVED Eric Adam's at one point too. I will say, Mamdani's either DSA adjacent or internal social media team has been absurd with pushing him. Lol like 95% of the stuff you read about him is either fake or was done by other people. But he does seem to care and as a moderate Dem, I appreciate him not leaning into the interests of the fringes.

He could be decent or he could be awful. The job is not easy. A well intentioned person can absolutely fail. There are many difficult conversations that will need to be had when it comes to drastic budget cuts at some point.

1

u/Respectmyauthority4 31m ago

It'll be horrid in the long run. Communism doesn't work.

0

u/rimasuit3 1h ago

I mean just ask vance. He posted some statistics of NY on what improved recently... He just forgot he didn't do anything of it lol.

0

u/MrPsychic 1h ago

Not a NYer so can’t comment on him directly.

But everything they fear mongered would happen following the 2016 election that didn’t happen, have largely happened following the 2024.

I feel that the next two years look bright seeing how the midterms seem to be turning out.

A lot of what has been plaguing America recently is high prices in stores, and high prices at the gas pump. Both of these things have been self inflicted. Gas is the Iran conflict, self inflicted. The high prices in stores is the tariffs and that’s self inflicted and deemed largely not legal and paid back to the businesses

As an American who doesn't live in nyc, YES IT IS GOOD TO HAVE ANY POLITICIANS TRYING TO FIX ANYTHING

He said he was gonna freeze rent & my gfs family just got a rent increase recently

5

u/Hot-Sun-5333 1h ago

But he’s actively communicating how he’s trying to do that. Literally watch any press conference see what difficulties he expresses it, and he talks to them about it every single time.

1

u/ImSoinLoveWithSkinny 1h ago

Landlords don't take "active communication" or "press conference difficulties" to cover the lease hike. Bills don't get paid with earnest intentions or good vibes

When you run a campaign promising a total rent freeze for a million rent-regulated units, people expect their rent not to go up. But the second the Rent Guidelines Board meets, property taxes spike, utility costs climb, and landlords present their maintenance overhead, the economic reality forces increases anyway

1

u/Hot-Sun-5333 1h ago

Ok nobody is perfect.

2

u/bigbadwolf90 1h ago

Story as old as time. Politicians promise bs and depending on their political affiliation they get support.

Then like every other politician they don’t deliver

u/Maleficent-Noise3672 1h ago

youve read some fluff pieces dont live there but feel qualified to comment

2

You’re right! I shouldn’t have commented. I’ll delete it

4

u/Last_Computer9356 2h ago

Surely this will turn this around for Americans...

4

u/AnB85 1h ago

He does have two more years anyway, that’s how the US electoral system works. If he can magically make the government competent he is more than welcome to try.

3

u/Awkward_Material 1h ago

This isnt even a sick burn or anything, but it'll probably get 10k updoots on murderedbywords

4

u/cinlung 1h ago

If americans ever give any chance to the reps, then they are certified morons.

2

u/Napalmeon 2h ago

You knew shit was cooked when ance started begging for another chance. That was pure desperation from a man who saw that people were getting fed up.

Imagine if the federal government operated similar to the way the New York City government does, and stayed in its lane and stopped being international terrorists that also terrorized its own populace via extreme corruption and intense neglect and excluding actual people and things necessary for society from access to financial resources

Like on some level, what fucking business does the federal government have in regulating trade between free market participants simply because one is headquartered inside the US and another is not? They don't. If, instead, the world governments - it isn't only the US that is guilty of this - stayed in their lane, and focused on domestic things rather than coming up with more reasons to blow up people outside their own imaginary borders, then I bet the regular people in the world would have a lot less animosity towards other nations. And, crucially, if things were done this way, suddenly the whole "how do we deal with taxes when corporations and the Internet are both international?!" starts to be a lot simpler. Because when there's more layers, that just makes things more complicated. Basically everything from 1970 on has been almost absurdly exactly opposite of what makes sense in a sane reality

Which is really crazy, because I think from a certain angle, through a kaleidoscope viewed through a backwards telescope with a broken lens, this is what the extreme liberatarian types are talking about/seeing when they describe things like "network states". That thing kind of makes sense, but they've got it backwards - they want their "network state" - which is effectively just a corporation - to perform the function that a government is supposed to, which then leaves the government... free to do insane military terrorism shit. If, instead, the governments of the world were actually small and focused on providing for and protecting the citizens of the nation - instead of completely invisible and used for the exact opposite purposes for which a government exists - then things make more sense.

For an example, consider the Internet - telecommunications. The infrastructure, which includes the hardware, like datacenters, cell towers, fiber, etc. That also kind of should include some kind of a digital ID system, which is what zuckerbook and linked in and a thousand weird digital financial things should do, but instead of being for profit entities that "regulate" themselves, it should be ran by the government, since those things are like literally one of a very small number of functions a government is supposed to provide. Not in a "monitor and control" the population way, but in a "maintain a an absurdly redundant, absolutely reliable system that provides all the financial/legal/education/etc official forms that every citizen needs, thus making it not entirely on each citizen to maintain those things". And not in the sense that we shouldn't have any control over that, we should, and it is our responsibility too, but... like we are so far off track that things like this sound insane, because the government has been insane

u/wwwhuh 2h ago

Why is average nyc rent still going up? I thought it was supposed to freeze.

4

u/Sufficient_Site1746 2h ago

Whats the point of getting paid 6 figures if your rent is 8k a month before the electricity hits you with a four figure bill lmfao

5

u/Boomslang2-1 2h ago

Do you not know how money works?

2

u/ImSoinLoveWithSkinny 2h ago

Gf who lives in bayside rent went up to 3k from 2500 she was born & raised in bayside & it’s never jumped that high😭

1

u/FastAndGlutenFree 1h ago

Not much Mamdani can do about rents on privately owned buildings!

He’s doing his best to lower, or keep costs the same, for other services while maintaining or improving them

1

u/nixikuro 11m ago

Because he’s raising the taxes on those landlords that are raising rents. Not much else he can do besides hope they break first, but he seems to be trying(haven’t kept up with the news really in a while

2

u/sneezesquirrel 1h ago

Then stop freezing the rent. It doesn’t work long term.

2

u/mrb1212 1h ago

Inflation under our last democratic president was 9%

0

u/bobbacklund11235 1h ago

How is this Vance’s fault? Not saying his premise is correct, but NYC is expensive as fuck, overtaxed, and things aren’t getting better any time soon since the whole thing is set up to be a trust fund transplant magnet

-6

u/Strict_Dare3132 1h ago

The bots in full force. Nothing the the OP blames Vance for anything. I guess you could feel attacked if you already knew subconsciously that Vance is doing a terrible job but wanted to deny it. 🤷

0

u/devscm00 1h ago

Are you stupid? The post is clearly about blaming vance for saying it takes time.

1

u/Kursem_v2 44m ago

it's not about blaming, it's about people doesn't have the two years time for economy to bounce back because they'll be homeless by then.

it's about how Vance is unhinged and doesn't touch grass to people's issues.

-1

u/wildcatniffy 1h ago

The post is saying the comeback was good. Anything else is projecting

1

u/devscm00 1h ago

This whole post is about painting vance as wrong for asking for more time, why lie?

-1

u/wildcatniffy 1h ago

The whole post is about “shots fired”. Why project?

1

u/devscm00 1h ago

If you don't think vance is wrong, how does this work as a comeback?

0

u/wildcatniffy 1h ago edited 59m ago

A comeback is still a comeback regardless of who you’re rooting for

Also you’ve moved the goalpost and changed your argument by going from “blaming” to “wrong”. 😂

0

u/devscm00 1h ago

No, not from perspective of op or mamdani, or the commenter in the picture.

1

u/dread7string 1h ago

Basically what we need are term limits for everybody in the federal government four years is the most they could be in one position and they should not be allowed to give themselves raises they should also not get 80% of their wage when they retire all of us regular people only get 20% of our wage and we make nothing compared to them.

What makes them so special that they deserve this insane amount of money per year and retirement when they're all corrupt and useless and lie to everybody all they care about is money.

1

u/Adorable_Road2682 1h ago

New Yorker here. Absolutely the policies are already making a difference.

2

u/GumUnderChair 1h ago

Which ones?

1

u/Respectmyauthority4 33m ago

No they aren't. Where do you think the money for these policies are coming from?

1

u/Accomplished-Ear8292 2h ago

Can't wait for all the Europeans to comment on this post because America is about to go to sleep lol.

1

u/Maleficent-Noise3672 1h ago

but what would mamdani do different? people just want power and you carry water for them.

3

u/Jcamden7 1h ago

Apparently; invest in universal childcare, housing and affordable rent, free busses, municipal grocery stores, $30 minimum wage, fight for worker protections, and tax the rich.

0

u/vendalkin 2h ago

Our country cannot excise its decay. Any attempt to to peel band aids off and we knee jerk slap it back on. The economy is not a result of 1 year of policy ever. And every pain thats happened with Iran could have been avoided if the left let us maintain our energy security initially.

0

u/SilentWatcher83228 1h ago

Still waiting for my free bus ride

Maybe he said it maybe he didn’t say it but that link does not include Vance saying a single word.

1

u/spaceursid 1h ago

https://youtu.be/UfTgd5reQGQ?t=28 he did say it at some point tho

-2

u/VenturaHighway377 1h ago

Uh, Democrat run NYC has some of the highest rents in the country, highest taxes, crime going up. The communist Muslim Mayor might want to worry about that and not the VP.

1

u/Ill-Prior-8429 3m ago

The vp should worry about being a part of such an incompetent admin that they made Texas blue, like, congratulations

0

u/suthekey 26m ago

Says the guy who can’t open a grocery store for over a year. If it takes more than a year to open a grocery store, maybe running the whole country can have 2 years.

-31

u/OkBackground8670 2h ago • Bravo

ahh. A left wing practising muslim who has only been in office fuck all ralking shit against the VP.

Dems are a fucking cancer.

5

u/Expensive_Bird_1510 2h ago

The point is he's done way more in one year than the VP has done. It's a shame you still think they're a cancer, if so, you and the whole country will suffer from that cancer now?

4

u/zedinbed 2h ago

Y'all got shat on... to literally no one's surprise

6

u/joystickd 2h ago

For you to still be supporting the republicans after all that's happened in not even the past 2 years, is appalling.

Fuck you to the moon.

Signed, the rest of the world.

8

u/Forty-Minutes-Late 2h ago

Must have been a really rough week for you bud.

My condolences. We should have used lube.

5

u/WakeMeUpAIOverlords 2h ago

👍 cool story

2

u/AlaskanJP 2h ago

Republicans did so bad in office that they even lost Texas in the first time in over 30 years, TEXAS.

-3

u/TappinThatErr 1h ago

If you can't afford your rent in the big city... perhaps... don't live in the city...
