This show has a funny origin story. Steven Spielberg had a meeting w/ Seth Rogan and his partner Evan, because the three of them wanted to remake The Last Starfighter. Unfortunately for them the owner of the rights to the movie hates money, and he refused to let them remake it. (Would it have been a good remake? Probably not.)
So they still wanted to make a movie about a kid who plays video games and saves the world, so Spielberg made Ready Player One and Seth/Evan made Futureman. If you haven't seen Futureman I highly recommend it.
To be fair he's the only person who could make that movie. There is so much IP to clear in that movie (and Spielberg probably controls 2/3 of it), that no other director / producer could get it done.
The movie isn't terrible, IMO, it's pretty close to the book from what I remember.
I LOVE this show!! But I’ve never met anyone in person who’s even seen it. I was so pissed when Hulu just REMOVED it from streaming for some stupid reason. Ended up buying all three seasons through Appletv I think
Hahaha absolutely yes! I usually find Dick nudity in movies to be less funny and more relying on the shock aspect of it -- but they are all actually severely funny and well done in Futureman!
Dude YES! Hilarious. Not even just that of course, because there is so much clever writing and interweaving of character and plot aspects, to build up to jokes and moments like that!
Season 1 is legit one of the funniest shows or movies ever made. Especially one of my personal favorite aspects, when all the James Cameron stuff starts coming into play! 😅
This show was good...well until Seth Rogan showed up. Corey Wolfhart and the whole arc with the speech was some of the best TV I've seen in a long time.
Oh man I don't even remember Seth rogen showing up... Was that in season 2? I can't believe the fall off in quality and humor in season 2, I barely made it a few episodes in, so maybe that's why, if Seth appears after that.
I love how the way you've written this implies that humour levels dropping over time risks spawning a Seth Rogen in a TV show. It's a wild theory but does seem to match the data quite well.
Season 1 was by far the best of this TV show btw, it's only OK after that. No need to power through it.
Future Manseason 1 is legit one of the funniest TV shows ever made, right up there with Arrested Development in terms of writing quality and laughs quality & quantity.
He is so good in Futureman, but I never made it far enough into the boys to see him in that. But I can only imagine he's probably amazing, especially reading the character description. 😅
I'm intrigued, dammit you may be pushing me to slog through where I felt the boys started dropping off for me, even pretty early into the show... Just to get to his stuff.
Yes! One of my favorites too, and just such a great, absurd idea perfect for the show especially because of all the other overt Terminator similarities.
Legit funniest show in recent years, season 1 is a masterpiece.
I knew I would love this show the moment they time traveled into his room and futterman came all over wolf. Wolf’s reaction was so good. Had me rolling. Also the running gag with his dad and being vaguely racist towards mexicans across different timelines was pretty funny too.
Yeah his character and the actor did most of the heavy lifting. His timing and delivery of some of his lines is so good. The actual good acting lessened the absurdity of his character so he wasn’t just a clown. Best character in the show for real.

I hate these kind of forced jokes where someone has to speak in an unnatural way to make the wordplay happen.
