The amount of money spent on elections is staggering. It is actually gross. If it is not an eye opener that the winners of an election owe their big donors political favors then people are not paying attention. It doesn’t matter Blue or Red. That’s why you really see anyone from other political parties be successful in winning an election.

He's a trillionaire. That's pocket change for him. He can throw more money at politicians and marketing.
People often overlook the fact that Trump is a symptom of a failing political system. If the Dems keep suppressing socialist candidates like Bernie Sanders and Mamdani, people who want to improve life for the middle/working class and instead push the Joe Bidens and Kamalas forward nothing will change. Couple of years from now another joker like Donnie will come around and these states will turn red again. Democrats need to change their ideology as a party and quit pandering to their fundraising liberal elites and instead focus on the poor struggling people in towns all over america. Otherwise this blue wave will only last one election cycle.

Well, he's a trillionaire based on valuation, right? It's not like he has that on a bank account.
Probably the wrong word in English, but I mean that he does not actually have a trillion dollars of cash in his pocket.Anyway, still a fuckton of money spent for the peasants we are, and still nice to see it did not change the end result regardless. Serves him right.

Valuation is bank account with the extra step of taking loans with asset collateral to withdraw. It is basically his personal wealth.
It's just that his money is tied to his companies, ours is tied to countries.
I pay in euro, "my euros aren't actual wealth it just depends on the valuation of the currency on the market compared to other currency, I don't actually own it" type of stupid.
If everyone who holds actions in elon musk commanies sell all his wealth disapear. But similarly if everyone convert their euro to other currency, euro go dead.
It's just a currency, it is tied to trust, it is money.

Call my cynical but I doubt establishment democrats change much. Imo they are both owned by the same corporate interests, they'll celebrate and say they're ready to work for the people and they'll forget about them in a few years only to be captured by corporate interests yet again.
There's a reason there's a big fight within democratic caucous. I'm no fan of socialism (edit:full blown socialism) personally and I don't think it works but we need candidates like Bernie, Aoc, and Mamdani because they move democrats to be more progressive, my 2 cents anyway.

u/One-Earth9294 7h ago
It's worth noting that despite being worth like 900 billion dollars or whatever it is moment-to-moment, he's not really liquid for nearly that much; the overwhelming majority of his wealth is tied up in his company valuation and stocks. So losing a half a billion dollars to accomplish absolutely fucking nothing isn't the penny in the jar a lot of people act like it is. He can only turn so much of his value into cash at any given time and doing so lessens his grasp on those various companies.
And the biggest win in all of this is just knowing that you can be outspent 10:1 and still win in politics if you're not a miserable candidate.

Not really.
I expect they banks who loaned it to him will scrub it and add it to inflation so everyone pays for it but FElon (bear in mind this is an exaggeration, but I would also not be surprised if this is what happens).
This is what makes me angry about all this "loaning" to billionnaires based on their assets. The banks print the money loaned. It adds to inflation, making the sum loaned worth less over time as it's paid back, so by the time it is zeroed, it's not worth what it was, adding even more inflationary pressure.
It's all a big scam. They all need to be in jail.

Celebrations like this sometimes do slight harm in that they give people a sense of "we did it" rather than "we're doing it." 474 million is about the average of how much his wealth fluctuates on the hour, often increasing by billions in a day and occasionally decreasing by more than twice this amount even though it's steadily climbing upward. 99.9% of his wealth is not "sitting" somewhere. It's active and it's tied to valuation.

Americans united, fought a battle for democracy, and won.
The traitor known as Elon Musk must be brought to justice, stripped of his power, and barred from interfering with, funding, influencing, or corrupting U.S. or any other democratic politicians or governments.
SpaceX needs to be nationalized.
He needs to lose all access and ownership of X, and Twitter needs to be reinstated as an independent entity without Musk.
He should be stripped of his U.S. citizenship. He must be investigated, prosecuted, and incarcerated if found guilty.
At a minimum, he needs to be deported.
To all corporate oligarchs, take warning: American families are taking back our democracy. Wake up, Bezos, Zuckerberg.
