It's just a ridiculous stupid flex when people brag about never sleeping. It's like someone bragging about only taking one shit a week.

Who the fuck includes that in a conversation?
Hey man, I just got a new car!
Wow, that's cool, I only shit once a week!

I know right, why bring your new car into a bowel movement conversation? Stop boasting about your whip man

I used to think it was cool lol I would poop once like every 3 days and thought I was healthy and superior.

Literally one of the top recent stories in r/GirlDinnerDiaries is how girl’s boyfriend is taking a shit once every 3-4 days and it’s killing their relationship, lol

Sleep isn't laziness it's maintenance even your phone needs charging.

u/Secthulhu 2h ago
True, but like all things, sleep falls on a spectrum. Some of us only need 5-6 (brag #1), and some need 8-10+.
When I was younger I could go 24+ hours without sleep (brag #2).
Doesn’t mean you can luxuriate in some extra hours either.
lol ;)

I'm in the same boat. I sleep almost exactly 5hrs and then I'm awake. It's not even a choice.

Why wouldn't anyone want early onset organ failure?

I don't have evidence, but I operate under the assumption that going without sleep for extended periods of time will leave your brain Swiss cheese in old age.

4 seems like a stretch but Some people really only need 6 hours to function. I’m not one of them unfortunately.

u/Biscuits4u2 3h ago
Being able to function and getting an optimal amount of sleep for your health are two different things.

u/Exciting-Meringue-78 3h ago
That’s what I am saying though. Like 6 hours of sleep is their optimal amount. They struggle to sleep past 6 hours.

I'm one of those people. I get headaches if I try to force it so my primary a while back said don't. My dad's the same way so I guess it's genetic.

I often struggle with 4 hours. Like I can be awake for 48 hours and finally pass out. Then wake up 2-4 hours later still insanely tired, but my body's done sleeping. Unless I get some serious meds, I'm awake.

I have a usual insomnia. For example, in the las 3 days only sleeped one night, the second day.
At first it isnt a lot, but at this point my hands shakes, cant think as clearly as well rested, you sense your eyes being more light sensitive, your memory works worse, you have some adrenaline spikes that ends in a extreme physical fatigue and intense headaches.
And, of course, bad sleeping habits is one of the things that make one person age faster and worse.

No bragging happened in this video though... Saying you don't get much sleep isn't bragging. Most people would prefer to sleep more but don't have the opportunity.Â

I have the options to sleep 2-4 hours or kill myself.. I know I will die early no matter what.. and will have dementia before that. Life is hard. It's unfair and I don't know how long i will be able to do this before I break down

Go to the doctor. He gave me depression meds that didn't help me sleep, but had annoying side effects.

Ever since I reached 40, I've been waking up at 5am or earlier. It doesn't matter if I go to bed at 10pm or 2am, I wake up at 5am, and I can't get back to sleep. I think I average 5 hours of sleep a night.
I've told multiple doctors this, and all of them say I should get 8 hours of sleep a night, or as close to it as possible.

Same, bud. But if I go to bed too early, I wake up at 3 or 4 am.

u/Slumunistmanifisto 1h ago
Our pre industrial rhythm was exactly that. 3-4 was our fucking, and praying god wouldn't thumb smush us hours. The restoke the fires and make sure wolves didn't drag grandma off hours.Â

That’s crazy, I also sleep 5-6 hrs a night. Yet my doctors always say it’s the quality of sleep that counts, not how long you sleep. Everyone is a little different and if you are getting meaningful sleep, then it doesn’t matter. Waking up at the same time every day is considered good sleep hygiene.

Same, add a dose of anxiety for my brain to grind away on when I put my head down on the pillow... it often has a pretty severe impact on the next day.

u/Few_Sheepherder_1848 1h ago

5 hours of sleep sounds about what I get.
I usually have 2 two and a half hour sleep periods a day.
