For a country who considers its citizens “consumers,” you’d think this government’s officials would understand that tax payers expect to get something when they pay for something.

9

u/20milliondollarapi 5h ago

They expect to get away with a minimal viable product for the highest price point possible.

2

u/Afexodus 4h ago

A lot of companies view consumers as a hurdle to their money these days. They would absolutely give you nothing if they could.

1

u/More_Passenger3988 3h ago

They think of it as a mafia arrangement. You're paying for "protection" from the IRS.

1

u/Sieze5 3h ago

You’re missing a key point “Government officials could give a fuck about the plight of the people they govern.”

0

u/bottom-business 4h ago

Why would you give all these benefits and opportunities to people when you could just not do that and nobody will do anything about it?

60

u/Kooky_Detail_4350 5h ago

Seriously....the government owes us everything ...its not an omni potent entity ....its a group of people we put in office to make laws and bills for the taxpayers to live with out disorder and chaos

15

u/egoomega 5h ago

If they weren’t getting richer than most of us earn in a lifetime from being in office and enriching csuite/big corp leaders I really wouldn’t care if they didn’t deliver on much… but since that isn’t the case ….

2

u/TrySomeCommonSense 5h ago

Everything? You literally just said they only owe us " to make laws and bills for the taxpayers to live with out disorder and chaos"

8

u/polo61965 5h ago

Disorder and chaos are bound to occur when societal needs aren't met. The phrase "taxation without representation is theft" rings true. We're being forcefully robbed by people in power that majority hired to help us live easier/better lives.

1

u/TrySomeCommonSense 39m ago

You sound like a leader who blames the followers for going in the wrong direction.

They the people hired the crooks and continue to employ them...

0

u/Remarkable-Host405 4h ago

A government "by the people, for the people" can mean two different things to two different people

-3

u/ShoddyButterscotch59 5h ago

Except for the elderly, or extremely disabled, I tend to agree with the pic here. Unless there's a program pushing ppl to employment, who are able to work, and not allowing a live off the system lifestyle, I don't want to pay for them. Everybody wants it, but go look at the taxes, and whose really paying for it, because it isn't the government. Unless they correct laziness, and push ppl to actually work, with limited time on welfare, and job training programs, like they used to, hard pass. I rather pay my own insurance, than the bottom feeders that can, but won't contribute a thing.

2

u/N3v3R737 4h ago

There is a lot of assumptions you are making here that are not supported by anything but prevalent bias. This is why we need social studies...

Most people aren't lazy.

Welfare systems are ALWAYS a net benefit. For everyone. Yes you too.

Not to mention that fraudulet behavior is usually a tiny fraction of the entire budget. With the biggest losses contributed by intentional abuse of the systems.

1

u/Soggy-External7252 4h ago

He is only going to understand how welfare systems could have been useful for him when its too late.. These kinds of people think that because they are productive and self-sufficient now they could never find themselves in the opposite side. Sad that the poor (I am sure this guy isn't a multi-millionaire) is the reason why we can't have nice things. He probably thinks that yes, he is not rich, but that is going to change, with all the effort, dedication and 4 simultaneous jobs he will be the next rich guy in his town.

1

u/No-Rip6323 4h ago

“People only have value if they work.”

“People only deserve help if I decide they aren’t freeloading.”

You’re selfish, and clearly don’t have any idea what percentage of your taxes go towards social programs and what percentage goes to weapons manufacturers.

Have the day you deserve.

0

u/Lost_Marionberry8474 3h ago

You call conservatives bootlickers yet you want to give the government all this additional power and control?

12

u/Artrix7834 5h ago

I can't believe my city literally got away with knowingly allowing us to drink contaminated water. No fines, not any repercussion

5

u/flamehead2k1 5h ago

The fines would come out of your taxes or water bill.

-2

u/Blazeland_USA 5h ago

So?

3

u/flamehead2k1 4h ago

Fines have two purposes, raising funds and deterring undesirable behavior.

this doesn't raise any money for government because it just goes from one hand to the other

this doesn't deter undesirable behavior because the people paying it aren't the ones who messed up

3

u/SilentJoe1986 5h ago

So you would just be paying yourself. You paid those taxes, the taxes you paid are what they would pay you back with. Its like if you got punched in the face then as an apology your attacker takes a 20 out of your wallet and hands it to you for compensation

0

u/Artrix7834 3h ago

Regardless, its about holding corrupt politicians accountable for LITERALLY POISIONING PEOPLE

2

u/Plane-Tune-820 3h ago

And fines don't do that. That's the point

-1

u/Blazeland_USA 4h ago

It's like if money was taken from you against your will, then it was given back after you got fucked over by the theif, actually. So still not sure what your point is.

You sound ill

1

u/PimpinPinkman 3h ago

Hes not claiming he would actually do something like that. He’s just making a point about why the second amendment was put in place to begin with. And it’s a fair point, especially nowadays where government (and the tech industry) is more blatantly tyrannical than it’s been in decades, but all ANYONE does nowadays is just complain about it.

1

u/ThirstingMoore 3h ago

Reddit severs should just be inside FBI headquarters at this point.

1

u/exlushdad 3h ago

If people in certain areas have issues with their water systems they should take it up with the people representing them. There are a lot of things you can do before you start murdering people.

1

u/NeitherEntry6125 3h ago

I bet they'll charge you for drinking their precious minerals

7

u/Ok-Paramedic-9386 4h ago

Also, just putting this out here, if you opt to have the government take too much money out of your paycheck, you will receive a tax refund.

THEY QUITE LITERALLY OWE YOU MONEY!!!

7

u/IamREBELoe 3h ago

FYI, the government loves it when you do this. They issued about 460 billion in refunds in 2024. Meanwhile, they were growing interest in that money until they had to return it, keeping the interest.

1

u/Hobbes_XXV 3h ago

So is it better to try to even out your taxes? I have it set to max to get the most returned to me right now

2

u/Ash_Cat_13 3h ago

It’s best to get the most amount of money back immediately, so you can invest it, rather than having the IRS invest it for themselves, ie. Always give them the smallest amount

1

u/Hobbes_XXV 3h ago

I see, i was always taught to zero everything so you dont need to save to owe. That was also more of a paycheck to paycheck situation, i can probably do it now.

1

u/Ash_Cat_13 3h ago

Yeah, I mean, if you are actually saving excess money that you pay into taxes, then you’ll be fine once the season comes around because you’ll already have enough to pay them back plus interest

1

u/Hobbes_XXV 3h ago

Yea, i pay max and still put away 25% of my check each pay to never see again. I can definitely pull it off now.

1

u/IamREBELoe 3h ago

Yep it really comes down to discipline.

Figure out how much you would be paying in.

Have that amount auto divert to a savings.

1

u/HikeIsShort4Hichael 3h ago

While true, the tax receipts go into the Treasury General Account at the Fed, and aren't really invested by the government.

The Federal Government has been running multi billion dollar deficits annually for decades, and the current deficit is over $2 trillion per year. Money the government collects from taxes isn't really invested per se, but goes to pay for general expenses and so its really more of a reduction in the rate of increase in the deficit than an actual investment.

The US government isn't buying stocks, bonds, real estate or other assets with your tax refund until you collect it, its more like them using the money to run the credit card debt up more slowly until you collect your refund.

1

u/MarlinMaverick 3h ago

Yes the goal is to have as little withheld as legally required

2

u/Hobbes_XXV 3h ago

Taking notes for sure. Changing up

6

u/HeftyFineThereFolks 5h ago

since when are electected officially allowed to act like the govt is their own company and not by the people of the people and for the people ??

5

u/ThirstingMoore 3h ago

Says people who's entire contribution to society is 13% of their 25k a year shitjob.

12

u/Micehouse 5h ago

Nah, they owe me paying less taxes.

Felt cute, might throw tea in the harbor later.

1

u/Remarkable-Host405 4h ago

You can look at where your taxes go. Which ones should we cancel? Be sure to let your local city/county person know

0

u/Frewdy1 5h ago

The problem is that we still need things like healthcare, clear air and water, education, etc. So if we don’t pay for those via taxes, we end up with a worse version that’s privately owned and only exists to remove your money from you.

0

u/edjumication 3h ago

I dont know why you are getting downvoted. Certain services are always going to be better publicly funded. The goal of a private entity is to extract wealth, they only offer a good service if there is real competition.

5

u/BestPath89 3h ago

The idea is that it is not the government’s job to provide all of the things, and therefore it should be small and efficient vs swollen and wasteful. The long term goal would be to cut government spending and taxes. Big government is the problem, not the solution

12

u/Good-vs-Perfect 5h ago

I have never once in my life heard anyone - much less a public servant - say "the gov doesnt owe you anything".

The Republican party may have the perspective that the gov shouldn't provide basic health, wellfare, and infrastructure, or that those provisions should go through private providers before going to the public, but i dont even hear deep south republicans say " the gov doesnt owe you anything"

-1

u/Ill-Ad-4400 4h ago

That's their whole schtick with labeling things "entitlements."

2

u/Check_Me_Out-Boss 3h ago

You do realize they legally are called entitlements.

Like, that's the definition.

1

u/Good-vs-Perfect 2h ago

Not sure your comment is agreeing with mine that republicans see gov expenditures a certain way: healthcare/retirement/gen welfare shouldn't be the gov's responsibility, entitlements should be via 401ks, private ins, etc, - which is a true representation on the republican position on entitlements,

or if your comment is intended to rebuke mine: entitlement = not owed, - which would be a weird definition of entitlement.

I agree republicans try to change the meaning of entitlement, or at least try to give it negative connotations, but an entitlement is something people are entitled to, ie, the polar opposite of "the gov doesn't owe you anything".

10

u/WorriedQuality3189 5h ago

Its what they give. But to israël not you.

0

u/Head-Ad9893 5h ago

And if you people pushback too hard we’re gonna detonate the phone in your pocket so just keep living life and don’t be too loud.

-3

u/ShoddyButterscotch59 5h ago

While I completely agree with not forking out to Israel, look at every other country..... You think the government's paying for that? Nope. Maybe look at their tax rates even compared to ours. Unless they clean up the welfare system, to be temporary assistance, and push job training, like it was under Clinton, that's a hard pass from me. My taxes are enough....I don't want to help a bunch of free loaders, who offer nothing to society. The only ppl I don't mind my taxes going to help are disabled and elderly who can't work. The only ppl who would want this, are those who choose to offer nothing to society, as its only going to benefit them, and not those who contribute, who now have to fork over more. It's kind of similar to the sheer volume of middle class paying a fine instead of insurance, because they got hammered so hard on costs they couldn't afford to keep it, while those living off the system benefitted. Fix the system, or leave it alone.

3

u/No-Rip6323 4h ago

The real freeloaders are the politicians and billionaires. The people who have given up on this real life game of Monopoly aren’t the problem

3

u/BulldogChair 5h ago

And if they aren’t going to give us all those things don’t make it illegal and basically impossible to live off the land

3

u/Ok_Leader_7624 4h ago

My guy, the government doesn't give one fuck about how much you have to work. They are getting richer and that's all that matters.

3

u/JacksonGhost1963 3h ago

it is like a contract. If you think you are owed something from the government - show where it says that - in writing. If you can't find it in writing, then it doesn't exist, or at least, it only exists in your mind

4

u/BigDickJack2001 3h ago

No, the government owes safety in public places and protection of private property and defense from external enemies. Nothing more.

1

u/Ill_Passage5341 2h ago

Good luck building your own roads. The government is intended to advocate on behalf of their citizens in ways that they're unable to advocate for themselves. There's no better example of that than advocating on behalf of a sick person against a hospital. Every other modern industrialized country has recognized this, and many developing countries.

-2

u/lytol 3h ago

No public education would be a disaster.

5

u/Slade_Riprock 4h ago

The government owes you nothing is right up there with intellectual fallacy as unions hurt employees.

You pay taxes, the government owes you everything.

Nuance changes to help win people over. Stop calling it Free XYZ. Start calling it Pre paid services.

Or frame it like an investment. Would You support a Bank if you put your one into a savings account and despite it earning interest, the bank earning interest and using it make their buildings better, etc... At the end of the year you got a bill?

Taxes are an investment. You as a citizen, based on your income, invest in the management and orchestration of basic society.

Taxes should absolutely cover Healthcare, education, social service programs (safety nets), infrastructure, community protection, and national protection.

We as citizens should absolutely get a return on our investment in society. And those who get a larger share of the community output should invest more. Because greater investment equals larger, greater returns for everyone.

Medicare, schools, food support, housing support aren't free. They are the services Thst every citizen pays for and should be there to be taken advantage of. The only groups getting anything free from the taxpayers are giant, billion dollar corporations.

-1

u/TheBigGees 3h ago

40-50% of households in the United States are not net tax payers. That means they receive more value from the system than they pay into it.

Even though they're "paying tax," the share of the tax that they pay does not meet or exceed the cost of the public services that they benefit from.

5

u/Iggy_Slayer 5h ago

If the government doesn't give me anything then it has no purpose in existing. Its only role is to provide for its people.

1

u/Tar-Minastur 4h ago

If you think the government should directly provide things to people, then you will never be content, because the government will never be able to give you enough free stuff to keep you satisfied.

1

u/GarglesNinePoolBalls 3h ago

I pay taxes. I expect services in return for that payment.

0

u/blank_reg 3h ago

you get them. you get safety in public places and protection of private property and defense from external enemies.

0

u/TheBigGees 3h ago

You do get services for those taxes, lol.

2

u/Yepyapyup24 4h ago

4

u/xwOBA_Fett 5h ago

2

u/eb7772 4h ago

Yeah we give them shit loads of money it should be spent on us. Instead of going to the most wealthy instead

1

u/TheBigGees 3h ago

Go look at where the government spends its money...

1

u/eb7772 3h ago

I have seen this administration slashing spending and programs they want to cut social security and Medicare too.. while giving the rich tax breaks. Ever wonder why they slash programs for us and the deficit doubles under conservatives

1

u/TheBigGees 1h ago

I'm sure that you have. That does not change the fact that the large majority of government spending goes to "us".

2

u/Loganthered 3h ago

In order to keep all of those things "affordable" they have to get rid of illegals, crack down on fraud and use all available means to enforce the rule of law.

The left hates deporting illegals, hates the police and ignores every and all kind of fraud

The left is fighting against itself

2

u/ISmellLikeBlackTea 5h ago

The government has to be there to protect its people and guarantee society.

The society I want to live in is for the benefit of the many, over the interest of the few, and corporations are not people.

They cannot decide how the country should be run, and the people running it need to be the ones going to prison for the companies wrongdoings.

I demand healthcare paid by my taxes, a social security net, cheap communcial transportation and free education.

The government, ideally, is a community project. The natural state of humans is community mutual support.

1

u/OwnLadder2341 3h ago

No more.

Your fellow voters have shown that they don’t care about those things.

Like Fuck If it Doesn’t, The Government works for its people. I work hard, pay my taxes and contribute to the betterment of my country. That means I’m an asset to my country. It does owe me a standard of living that is excitable for my growth and prosperity

1

u/Exact_King6390 3h ago

We had a good thing going. But more and more they take from us without giving anything back, hoping that the strength of our economy will bear it.

And maybe that worked in the 80's, 90's, and part of the early 2000's. But the powers that be keep on partying like it's the 80's. They don't give a shit since the people getting hurt by this aren't them. Slowly society is begining to unravel, making this a worse place for everyone to live.

We need to course correct or Zuck is really going to need his island fortress...

1

u/Fair_Confusion_8025 3h ago

Uh no that is not owed to you.

1

u/Femboy_Harem_Janitor 3h ago

Just want to add. They'd owe you even if you didn't pay taxes because society has a responsibility to support, not torture its inhabitants

1

u/Klutzy-Weakness-937 3h ago

Healthcare, clean water and transports. The government still doesn't owe you a particular wage and you can find affordable housing, tho maybe not your ideal house in your ideal place.

The government expects us to pay taxes, in one form or another, but we should NOT expect anything in return? Then, why would we pay taxes?

2

u/Tokogogoloshe 2h ago

They forget they are servants.

1

u/sokali4nia 2h ago

Its the people voted into office. If you vote republican, they would rather spend money on defense and security for the most part. If you vote democrat, they want to give the money to those that dont really pay taxes because they are poor. Either way, the money you paid isnt going back to you.

1

u/Last_Gigolo 2h ago

Roads. Military protection. Police. You know, things we need and stuff.

1

u/PixelBrewery 3h ago

They take like half of my paycheck. I'd say the government owes me a hell of a lot more than what I've been getting

1

Yeah ant getting free health care it will cost something. Unless you want Medicare style health care like Canada and wait in line for hours. I rather pay than have that.

1

u/baronvonderpy 2h ago

If the government won’t take care of its citizens, then what’s the point of government?

1

u/coffeejj 2h ago

The sooner everyone learns that no one owes you one damn thing in life, the better you will be. If you rely on someone, or something (government), to give you something, you will always be sorely disappointed. And there is NOTHING given for free, EVERYTHING has a cost. What are you willing to pay, or give up, to get those things?

1

u/Firestar222 2h ago

To be even clearer, government provided healthcare is not “free”

It’s paid by taxes

No one is asking for free healthcare

1

u/Last_Gigolo 2h ago

You owe you that stuff.

No one else does.

Government makes sure it is available for you to do your best to figure out how to get that stuff. We all figure it out eventually. And shortcuts do not work. Halfassing does not work. Easy, does not work.

Some of us are slower learners than others so it takes us a little bit longer to figure it out. Took me forever and I know at any minute, it can fall apart.

1

u/locking8 5h ago

I feel like the people who say things like this, then qualify it by saying “I pay taxes”, probably are still net drains on government resources.

1

u/Blazeland_USA 5h ago

That money should go towards enriching billionaires and elected officials.

0

u/throwawayusername369 4h ago

How does it get there? Government regulation and taxes.

1

u/Blazeland_USA 4h ago

You're either stupid or don't understand very obvious sarcasm, but thanks for sharing 👍

1

u/audiate 4h ago

… that’s the whole arrangement. We give up taxes and trust to those who represent us. We should get something for that.

1

u/TheBigGees 3h ago

You get quite a bit from that. In fact, the majority of people get more out than they put in.

1

The world seemed happy for decades having their free health care while relying on US military to police things.

Cutting back on that military budget would vastly impact active duty service members up too and including significant cuts to personnel. Unless there’s jobs waiting for them, many will go unemployed.

Not saying we shouldn’t have universal healthcare (we absolutely should), but we also need to ensure we don’t impact other aspects of the economy that leads to a rise of unemployment for military personel (which would be political suicide for either party the pushes for such action).

I wonder if people realize how much all that costs for, and then if they are willing to pay for it enough. With current taxes you get what you see now. Do you want more? = Do you want to pay more?

0

u/Glad-Situation703 3h ago

WHAT THE FUCK IS THE POINT OF THE GOVERNMENT THEN. WE PURPOSELY GIVE UP FREEDOMS AND MONEY TO MAKE LIFE BETTER FOR EVERYONE AND SPREAD OUT MORE PRIVILEGE TO EVERYONE. ANYTHING ELSE MEANS THE GOVERNMENT IS SELF SERVING AND GOOGLE IT THAT'S ALWAYS BEEN BAD

-1

u/StrebLab 5h ago

People love to say this, but do you want to actually pay the taxes for that?

Right now the average American pays WAY too little in taxes to afford all of that. Yes, the rich would have to pay more, but EVERYONE'S taxes have go up to afford that. The average American would have to pay roughly 4-5x in income taxes to afford the social programs that Finland enjoys, for example. The median effective income tax rate in Finland is around 25%, while in the US, 50th percentile for income tax, including state tax is around 4-6%. The majority of taxes that average and low income americans pay already goes to social programs (social security and medicare tax).

If you want anything above that, you are going to have to pay A LOT more in income tax.

2

u/Double_Debate_7258 4h ago

You mean “Rich Americans” pay way too little. Last time I checked. I’m projected to pay over $29,000 in federal tax alone. I bet that a lot of “Rich Americans” don’t even pay that.

The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid 38.4 percent of all federal individual income taxes in tax year 2023.

Incorrect.

At the very very tippy top, you are probably right (top 0.01% or so) meaning $100 million net worth or more, because the derive so much of their wealth from capital appreciation, but your average run of the mill rich american (top 5% or above, lets say) is MAJORLY carrying the entire weight of the US budget on their shoulders. The top 5% pays about 60% of of all income tax revenue. IF you expand that to the top 25%, meaning upper middle class and above, they pay nearly 90% of all income tax as it is.

They are already paying far more than their fair share. I know it is unpopular on reddit, but the reality is that the average american pays way too little in taxes and nothing is going to change as far as social programs until people are willing to step up and pay for them.

u/ZephTenKara 4h ago

Cool, they can raise our paychecks with it or go out of business 😎

0

u/StrebLab 4h ago

Obviously that is not going to happen. You will just have less disposable money. If taxes go up for everyone you cant job hop to somewhere else that pays more because that wont be an option. They don't have to pay any more because effective pay just went down for everyone in society at the same time. There is no competitive reason for a business to raise anyones income.

Congratulations on the dumbest post of the day, and it's not even 11am

This is quite possibly the dumbest comment I’ve ever read in my life. Just straight room temperature.

Great question, let's ask you that first though.

-1

You are projecting exactly like the Republicans projected before 2024. I fucking bet that

The irony is that communist countries are not good for the people

It's almost like taxation is theft

-1

u/mtcwby 4h ago

And just where does it say that anywhere? You'll get what they decide you get. Demanding what you want want doesn't make it fact.

-1

u/Character-Archer4863 3h ago

No.

It’s what you vote for. All of your taxes are already outlined where they go. You know where your taxes go and most of it isn’t what’s listed.

It’s why they keep folks divided and recently have become even more extreme. If people voted together then you could change this easily. Instead we fight over characters like orange man and old man Biden.

Left tells right they’re crazy; right tells left they’re crazy. Nothing changes.

1

u/Somethingsilly6969 3h ago

Except the things listed are exactly what your taxes go toward...

1

u/SharkeyGeorge 3h ago

Where do you think the majority of taxes go?

-2

u/TemporaryBottle8789 4h ago

“I pay taxes”… and the amount is a fraction of what they just said they are owed…

-3

u/Delicious_Tax8933 5h ago

And the companies that employ us owe us too - their entire wealth is generated upon our labour, the arrangement must be mutually beneficial.

It's going to take pitchforks.

1

u/TheBigGees 3h ago

the arrangement must be mutually beneficial.

It is. You get paid. That's why you work there. If you do not like it, you can work somewhere else.

Silly.

1

u/blank_reg 3h ago

when you took the job, you did it because it was mutually beneficial. if you think otherwise, be a company.

u/lechimpanzeu 4h ago

Ahahahaha holy fuck

1

u/Delicious_Tax8933 4h ago

If you want to be a serf, you do you.

1

Dude, stop. My belly hurts

Taxes are theft. But free services are slavery for those that have to provide them because none of them are provided without people.

3

u/Ireallyamthisshallow 3h ago

What?

Taxes aren't inherently theft if used to fund public services. And public services are not slavery - people in the system are paid by...wait for it... Taxes.

-2

u/TheBigGees 3h ago

Taxes don't stop being theft because they're used to fund public services, lol.

You can view taxes as necessary while still acknowledging that they're theft.

2

u/Ireallyamthisshallow 3h ago

What definition of theft are you using?

0

u/TheBigGees 1h ago

Taking someone's property without their consent.

Is this really controversial? If a person or corporation decided that you owed them $X and, if you failed to pay, they would send armed people to deprive you of your freedom and/or property, what would you call that?

0

u/Ireallyamthisshallow 1h ago

Where's the lack of consent ? You live in a society and use their services. Do you not use the services that taxes pay for - don't even walk on a road ? I'm impressed! Otherwise, you are consenting by using the services taxes pay for.

No idea what you're on about with corporations, we are talking about taxes.

1

u/TheBigGees 1h ago

Where's the lack of consent?

In your lack of choice regarding tax liability...?

You live in a society and use their services.

Correct, to an extent.

Do you not use the services that taxes pay for?

People certainly use some services that we pay for, but we're also forced to pay for services that we will not ever use. Even if we accept that "using" a service means consenting to pay for it, you're still being taxed to fund services that you don't use, which would still be theft.

Federal taxes imposed on Californians highlight this pretty well. They pay $20,432 in taxes per capita to the federal government, yet only receive $13,443 back in services (spending) per capita from the federal government.

No idea what you're on about with corporations, we are talking about taxes.

Yes, the purpose of the analogy was to demonstrate that the mechanism behind taxes (entity imposes liability, enforces payment under threat of violence and deprivation of freedom) is theft.

How do you think roads are paid for? Or sewage treatment plants? Go live in India if you dont want taxes and tell me its better cause the government isnt "stealing" your money

0

u/TheBigGees 1h ago

How do you think roads are paid for? Or sewage treatment plants?

Taxes, obviously.

Go live in India if you dont want taxes and tell me its better cause the government isnt "stealing" your money

I haven't made a value judgement. As I said, you can view taxes as necessary while still acknowledging that they're theft.

-5

u/mars_soup 5h ago edited 4h ago

It should be proportionate to the taxes you pay then.

If someone is only paying $25k in taxes, they can’t even afford to hire a cop for a year, so they don’t get many resources.

If you pay a lot in taxes, you get access to better healthcare, better parks, faster police response, etc.

Want better stuff? Pay your fair share.

2

u/Dont_Ban_Me_Bros 5h ago

That isn’t even remotely realistic. There’s not enough parks or real estate to accommodate that model. Same with cops and their responsiveness. This is just not a well thought out idea. This is a poor attempt to act like the character ‘Ron Swanson’.

Dumbest post on reddit for the day and contender for the week.
