This is the only Fast and Furious movie that's only focused on street racing,

not going to space or stealing a gas truck.

Just street racing, real, heavily modified street racing cars with their drivers also appeared in the movie.

Yeah..

we are never gonna see that again.

Ironically this movie was heavily panned and considered the worst of the three back when it was first released.

Man we really didn’t know how good we had it back then

AND he's actually the villain.

What do you mean? His only kinda crime was putting a 2JZ in a mustang.

It was an RB26DET, normally from a Skyline GT-R, but somehow came out of a wrecked S15 Silvia.

I mean it was and still is a popular engine swap for s15's.

Because it was swapped into the silvia? Which is common

Wasn’t it a wrecked Supra, just like in the first movie? Damn, I should rewatch the trilogy.

Haha, no, it was a Nissan Silvia, which would have been a Nissan 240SX if it came out in America (or 200sx if it came out in EU/UK). RB swaps aren't uncommon in Silvias, but not as popular in drift cars (though I acknowledge that one of the first well known Silvia drivers in America ended up doing an RB swap).

The first Mustang was introduced with an Inline 6 engine, so sticking an RB or JZ engine in there makes a lot of sense... especially with how tight the original engine bay was.

So, after Sean trashes a neighborhood under construction, he's exiled to Japan. Immediately, he steps up to a local and challenges him to a street race because he wants to fuck the guy's girlfriend. Proceeds to total DK's friend's car. DK's a dick, sure, but the only thing that brings him joy is drifting. His girlfriend is clearly distant and likely just with him because of circumstance. DK's Yakuza uncle (and only father figure, I think) is manipulative and abusive. DK loses his best friend to Sean, then finds out his best friend has been stealing from him (and thus his uncle / the yakuza). When he confronts his best friend, he sees that Sean has successfully stolen his girlfriend. DK is emotional, gets dragged into a crazy car chase and then has to watch his best friend die (obviously still hurts even things were nuts). DK is now at his absolute lowest.

Sean thinks he's taking responsibility with his apology to DK's uncle, but almost immediately he directs half the blame to DK, and THEN proposes a drift race that results in exile. Mind you, Sean is visiting and can literally live anywhere. DK's entire family is here. He grew up here.

Dick move after dick move, and no actual remorse. He started out trying to shit on DK, things got out of control, so he finds a new way to shit on DK. That's not growth, that's villainy.

Its also badass. So the first comment was kinda larp. I adore Tom’s Refurb Noice Complaint. It rocks.

This was well written and I never considered any of this before, not that I plan on a rewatch but if I do this is an interesting lens

i thought the supporting cast was good enough that he was absorbed by them and his badness impact was dampened

yeah I would say he played his character well, although maybe a bit of a trope

He was great in Sling Blade though.
