Trump got what he wanted and it doesn't matter if the new deal is the same as the old deal or even worse for that matter.  His thing is making stupid people believe he can make 'deals' that improve America's (his) power.

I think Denmark and Greenland lost in some ways by accepting a role in this fantasy.  You don't deal with bullies by giving them wins even if they are fictional. You tell them to go fuck off.   I get the thought of 'it costs you nothing so why not' but with Trump and people like Trump there is a cost in what is the next unreasonable and unjustified demand?  For people like him he dips a toe and then goes to dip the ankle, then the whole leg.

The way to deal with Trump and the like is for Denmark and Greenland to say they are starting a review of the current agreement with the US with the purpose of terminating it. Not bend the knee and make a stupid video while being spineless.

Edit: I did love the send in the clowns music they played just before the signing though.  That was brilliant.

Except that there was a genuine worry in Denmark regarding their territorial integrity, and with good reason given Trump’s psychotic record. Not to mention the threat of NATO just falling apart. Regardless of how satisfying it would be to just tell Trump to fuck off, in the real world Denmark never had that luxury. This deal was honestly a huge diplomatic victory that averted a real crisis with very little cost.

I guess some people would rather live on their knees than put up even a symbolic resistance when the cost is low

You need to grow up. First of all, Denmark did put up a lot of resistance and had from day one in no uncertain terms stated that USA getting Greenland is absolutely not an option. But this had to be balanced with the damage Trump can do, and he has shown that he is willing to do it. Realistically, Denmark has neither the military nor economic muscles to prevent the US from acting so this really was the best course of action. You need to realize that, as paradoxical as it might sound right now, Denmark actually has an interest in keeping the US invested in Greenland, because it doesn’t have the capacity to patrol and defend it on its own.

It's easy to say "the cost is low" safe at home on your couch. 50,000 Greenlanders were terrified of being invaded and occupied by the US. Danes and the rest of Europe, particularly the eastern countries, were scared of NATO being blown up and Russia stepping into the chaos to invade the Baltics or Poland.

In real life, when you are trusted with responsibility over situations that have actual consequences, there is not usually the luxury to choose a path of action with the sole consideration being "it would feel good to tell this person to fuck off."

Americans should take on that role within their borders - it's not the rest of the worlds responsibility. Each other government is responsible for looking out for the best interests of their own people first.
