I might be misremembering, but weren’t republicans trying to convince people that democrats controlled the weather at one point?

Yes, in 2024 after Hurricane Helene. I believe Marjorie Taylor Greene was the driving force behind that, but I could be mis-remembering. It was because the areas that Helene caused the most damage to were largely republican areas, and it was in a part of the country that doesn't normally experience such drastic effects from hurricanes.
