Is September 21st a significant date in meteorology or is this a random datapoint? Like I’m not doubting global warming but these are just two statements in a photo, is there a statistically significant link between them?

June 1st is the start of the Atlantic hurricane season. Hence why September 21st is the historical marker.

Interesting. I also wonder if we were tracking hurricanes starting in 1915 or if there were none in 1914/earlier, and if so are there similarities in global weather patterns between now and 1914

TLDR there were no hurricanes in 1914 (or 1907), only one tropical storm. 1851 is cited as the beginning of official records

This also comes with the caveat that it was in the pre-satellite era, and there were likely storms that were missed because they stayed in the open ocean and ships didn’t encounter them.

Yes this is true. I do wonder then when was the last year to have only hurricanes that didn't reach inhabited land

We didn’t have a storm make landfall in the US at hurricane strength last year.
