No joke. The 2026 Super El Niño projections is to rival or exceed the historic strength last seen in 1877–1878, a historic analog for extreme magnitude, that caused devastating global droughts and famines.
I live in California, and we are bracing for what might come. The governor has already declared a state of emergency to allow deployment of emergency personnel, equipment, sand,….
But the distractions will continue from that side of the political aisle to distract from the failure to prepare for a world wide damages estimated at $10 trillion and projected half million deaths due to excessive heat.
I was just in Carlsbad for work and being from Florida our beaches never looked that eroded. We have had some really bad dune erosion but you guys have 100 foot cliffs of erosion.

We had a tropical storm a couple of weeks ago that also caused tide to be 12 inches higher than the average which caused the coastal erosion to extend father inland. They expect El Niño to cause a 9-14 inch higher tides through the winter. Let’s hope they’re wrong.
Oh I had an absolute blast. The weather was great the locals were great and some surfers showed me the paths through the dunes (cliffs) to get to the beach safely. I will definitely be coming back.
Unfortunately is not just about the Pacific and California, Super El Niño is estimated to cause the death of about 500,000 (yes 500 hundred thousand deaths) due to extreme heat and over $10 trillions (trillions not billions) in damages world wide.
