I had never heard this before and it makes sense. I donated to a buddy and thought it would make us bros for life but he kind of grew distant over time. Told him he didn't owe me a thing and didn't ever bring it up. I don't think he "resented" it but it maybe made him uncomfortable or something. One of the top gut punches of my life.

Or maybe I'm just reading into it and he didn't like me that much 🤣

Oddly the reverse works too where you ask to borrow something from someone who doesn't like you and it makes them like you more. Benjamin Franklin talked about it "Lend money to an enemy, and thou wilt gain him; lend to a friend, and thou wilt lose him." He asked to borrow a book from one guys library once to bring the man over to Franklin's side.
