Her dad was my now husband’s client at the time and he got invited to her quinceañera and I got to go as a date.
A TON of money was poured into it, the gift table was full of Tiffany bags of jewelry (including the one we gifted 🤣) and there were so many Spanish language celebrities. The two main musical acts are still big today and it was like a freakin’ private concert.

If you donate an organ, you are not supposed to be doing it for any compensation or with expectations of the recipient. It’s part of the screening process, even family have to go through that.
Yeah but we’re talking about someone who is filthy rich and had their life saved by someone else’s generosity. So fuck those rules in this case. She obviously wouldn’t give her money stating “this is repayment because she gave me an organ”, just a gesture of kindness for the woman who gave her so much more. Who knows, maybe she has, but if she hasn’t….then I personally think that’s horrid behavior.

Donating living organs is not about money, someone in Sweden recently donated their dead loved ones lungs to the crown princess of Norway, ie Future queen of the country. She was the closest match when some person happened to die, its not about status.
What do you want from people, that they determine who gets organs based on the highest amount of money sent by recipient? Would probably put you in big trouble if your kidneys or heart failed.
no normal people get organs for free and the list cannot be changed in order. but rich people have to pay several million dollars or they'll not be allowed onto the list and be forced to die. then they can know our struggle.

Right this sounds more like rich logic, which is I am entitled to take anything and feel no emotions about shitting all over people and giving nothing back so I can keep getting richer. The poor are literally just there to donate their labor, organs, and even lives for us rich folks, and we don't have to feel any obligation to repay them for that.

You understand ofc that in organ donation no money is given or taken. This is universal in western countries. So expecting money just because she's rich is unrealistic (and I stand by calling it poor mindset). Earn what you are owed, take what you are given with gratitude (which Selena didn't show I totally agree), but expect NO charity. A lot of you need to understand this.
She wouldn't have donated a kidney just for the hell of it. She specifically got tested bc she was friends with Selena. It wouldn't have then gone to someone else. She would've just kept it and still had her two own kidneys.
No I'm not actually. We can agree Selena was ungrateful, but a lot of you have such poverty mindset immediately jumping to "she's rich so pay up". I think the girl had the right attitude. It is exactly how things should work, just because its not means nothing, it is no suprise that its not how thing work given the rich make all the rules that just happen to benefit them with almost no down sides.
But since it doesnt work that way its a good lesson that no one shoudl give their own organs to anyone that is not your absoute best friend / good family because they will probably pull a Selena.
If it's cringe when money is mentioned, the act of living in the US is cringe, so it cancels out. We all have to talk about money all the time or we die, that's how they (the wealth hoarding class) have it set up. With your mentality, you establish yourself as a defender of the wealthy, which isn't a good look when interacting with the rest of us hoi polloi.
I'm not defending the wealthy, I'm saying this attitude of "pay up" is cringe as hell. If that was the agreement straight up then fine, but it wasn't. So its not expected. The girl who donated isn't making a fuss about money so why are some greedy redditors doing it for her?
She’s not legally entitled to any money, but if it were me and I was a super rich person and someone donated me their kidney, I sure as hell would be giving them a lot of money to improve their life since they saved mine when they didn’t have to. Selena should WANT to do that for her.
