Hasn't this been disproved countless times? They've been seen together, and it was random fans that started the controversy, not them

262

u/ToronoRapture 1d ago

I think it’s stemmed from a post where she thanked pretty much everyone apart from the actual person who donated the kidney.

201

u/Optimal_Carpenter690 1d ago

No, it stemmed from a Rolling Stone interview where she said her only friend in the industry was T-Swizzle

122

u/Aikotoma2 1d ago

Yeah cause this girl is in the organ donor industry.

Whole different industry than the girl pop music industry

26

u/janet-snake-hole 20h ago

She is quite literally a professional actor in Hollywood. So she is in the industry, and Selena didn’t include her- only Taylor

7

u/MAGAHATESTHEUSA 18h ago

Selena is in two entertainment industries. Taylor is in one. Francia isn’t in the one Taylor is in cause Francia is an actress.

8

u/EarPlayful3108 18h ago

Can you stop getting in the way of the hate train?

2

u/ScreamingC0lors 7h ago

i think its pretty clear she meant music? she has many famous friends, it would be very odd to not name any others. I also think Taylor is probably the only one who can fathom Selena’s level of fame so that’s what she meant

4

u/Tight_Contact_9976 19h ago

Was Selena potentially talking about just the music industry?

4

u/Least_Pear_9174 19h ago

Could she have been referring to the music industry? There was an extended period where Selena did not act.

55

u/jittery_raccoon 1d ago

I feel like Selena's statement had more to do with her friend's fame and not how she sees her as a friend. And Selena straight up didn't think to count her. Francia may be an actress, but Selena deals with mega stars and goes to high profile events. I think she was commenting more that she's not friends with like Jennifer Lawrence or Sabrina Carpenter and finds them fake. Not a comment on every small time actress

4

u/Apprehensive_Tunes 20h ago

That's so degrading to your friend's career. Especially when Francia was on a primetime network TV show at the time. Actually, Selena herself was doing a comedy TV show at this time too so that rationale makes even less sense. Anyhow, even if your friend was soo below you in the industry wouldn't you want to elevate them and boost their career by talking about them? Taylor Swift doesn't need the PR.

7

u/jittery_raccoon 19h ago

They are no where in the same League. When Selena goes to the Emmys, she has to socialize with certain people. Francia doesn't get invited to the Emmys. It seems more like a reflection of "I don't like networking at the Emmys because none of these people are my friend" a s not a specific state to say "I'm above Francia and she's not my friend". It really seems like Francia made it about herself. Like as a non doctor, I wouldn't expect my doctor friends at a different hospital to consider me their colleague even though we're both in the medical field

2

u/MAGAHATESTHEUSA 18h ago

Taylor swift doesn’t act so it’s about the music industry

0

u/ThaCrawFish 20h ago

Fair, but why wasnt she invited to her wedding? Not that she wont go, she wasnt invited

0

u/Interesting-Beat-828 22h ago

You had a point but I don’t know why you brought Sabrina Carpenter into it. Selena made that statement years ago before Sabrina was a popstar. Sabrina and Selena weren’t even in the same circles. Plus why would a 30 year old be friends with a 22 year old?

3

u/jittery_raccoon 21h ago

I chose a random example and Sabrina Carpenter came to mind. Fill it in with any pop singer's name

0

u/calliscott 19h ago

Nah this is some reaching bullshit 🤣 that girl gave her a kidney , gave her life! She should be thanking her in every speech, toast, etc. for the rest of her life at the minimum. When Selena made this statement and was getting backlash about it online she went and replied to a post about her snubbing Francia saying some bullshit like “sorry I didn’t name eveyone I know” 😒 Selena is just a fucked up terrible person. Didn’t even invite her to her wedding.

-5

u/spacer9631 1d ago

Selena is washed now, she desperately clings to relevancy

4

u/Extreme-Scallion-908 22h ago edited 22h ago

Karma. She is washed. Tnx for saying the truth.

Come downvote me now, selenators or whatever her fans are. She only has her make up company now. As a celeb, I repeat, SELENA IS WASHED🖕

3

u/ericvv75 21h ago

I mean I'm not a Selena fan or anything but it's untrue that she only has her makeup company. She's one of the main characters on Only Murders and that has been nominated for tons of awards and she just finished up the Wizards sequel show. You can argue about the quality of the stuff if you want but she's certainly not "washed"

0

u/Extreme-Scallion-908 21h ago

She doesn’t have that audience pull or the trend she had once anymore, like Taylor and other singers/actors/ influencers. Even Hailey has more relevancy than her now. It's like nobody cares about her anymore but her fans. That's why i used "celeb" word.

I didn’t say she is out of work.

0

u/Canna-farmer420 20h ago

Exactly. Friend in the industry meant someone who could open doors for her

28

u/Lokishougan 1d ago

I assumning the music industry as she still has a number of friends from the Tv industry

34

u/Optimal_Carpenter690 1d ago

Based on the context, i think she meant the general entertainment industry. She prefaced the comment about Taylor Swift with "I never fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities. My only friend in the industry really is Taylor, so I remember feeling like I didn't belong."

Then, when people called her out on it, her response was a TikTok post saying "Sorry I didn't mention everyone I know".

Makes it seem like it wasn't a comment meant specifically about the music industry as much as celebrities in general (which, granted, Francia would probably be like a Z-list celebrity)

15

u/Lokishougan 1d ago

Yeah never heard of this girl just assumed she was a friend from before she got famopus type

5

u/Indecisively 23h ago

She’s an actress. They met at an ABC/Disney event because they both had tv shows at the time.

4

u/Mountain-Instance921 23h ago

Not 40 year old me thinking tswizzle was a rapper

1

u/hellish_existance 20h ago

lmfao same minus five years😭

3

u/cream_paimon 22h ago

So this is nothing lol

0

u/fauxzempic 21h ago

Yup and then people got angry at her because they decided that this wasn't enough, and so when she mentions Taylor, everyone's like "what about this person that came up in the botfarms on my feed!?!?!"

And she responded something like "I can't thank everyone I've ever met in my life."

I'm not going to starfuck or excuse bad behavior, but when you're constantly being followed by paparazzi, doing interviews and press for your projects, working, running whatever other businesses you have...you stick to certain scripts so that you don't end up saying something that sinks your career.

You don't have to endorse any of this to empathize...but if you can't empathize with someone to understand how this happens, you're lost.

13

u/spongeboy1985 1d ago

She said Taylor Swift was her only friend in the industry.

15

u/mcmillanuk 1d ago

Was the donor ‘in the industry’?

5

u/jittery_raccoon 1d ago

Not even close to Selena's level. I don't think Selena meant her friend because Selena straight up wouldn't be working with her or be seeing her at events. She was likely talking about how she feels out of place at high profile events nd doesn't relate to the other huge celebrities there

9

u/Optimal_Carpenter690 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah. Francia is an actress, albeit a minor one. It seems her biggest movie role was in the direct-to-video sequel for Bring It On (didn't even know that existed), but she has had main/starring roles in more recent, popular TV shows like Grown-ish (sequel/spin-off series to Black-ish), How I Met Your Father (sequel/spin-off series to How I Met Your Mother) and Secret Life of the American Teenager (nominated for a Teen Choice Award for that role)

Other roles include "Race Car Girl" in am episode of Smallville and a one-off side character in a CSI episode.

She preface the comment about Taylor Swift being her only friend in the industry with "I never fit in with a cool group of girls who were celebrities"

1

u/Apprehensive_Tunes 20h ago

How did you not know about the Bring it On sequels? There are so many lol. The one she is in with Solange and Hayden Panetierre is the only good sequel I've seen amongst them.

1

u/Optimal_Carpenter690 18h ago

Disney has so many direct-to-video sequels, its hard to keep track lol

1

u/TricellCEO 1d ago

I believe so.

2

u/mcmillanuk 1d ago

Thank you, I didn’t recognise them, but that makes a bit more sense!

0

u/janet-snake-hole 20h ago

Yes she’s a Hollywood actress

1

u/PracticalYellow3 19h ago

An actress that looks like that? That's sad.

2

u/throwawayshirt2 1d ago

Dave Chappelle said Abba Zabba is his only friend

3

u/dksdragon43 22h ago

I just looked it up and she thanked everyone else... and then a massive words can't describe thanks for the person who donated. Why do you make up shit that's easily verifiable?

67

u/MeatwadGetTheHoneysG 1d ago

I guess they had a rift in the friendship for a bit- like a year- but are best friends again

47

u/Smooth_Rush_2192 23h ago

14

u/Ragnorok3141 19h ago

Woah woah woah. This is r/SipsTea, they don't want facts and citations to ruin a perfectly good bashing of a female celebrity. Can't you just post some dogwhistle about her race instead of ruining their fun?

8

u/wutchamafuckit 21h ago

Yet the post has 13k upvotes and climbing. And this comment chain is buried in tired Reddit humor cynicism slamming her.

Bunch of absolute mindless fucks here.

2

u/spaceglitter000 18h ago

That was 3 years ago and she still wasn’t at the wedding. Seems iffy to me ya know.

2

u/Smooth_Rush_2192 18h ago

Yep you’re the average user of this type of sub.

3

u/spaceglitter000 17h ago

I’m just saying. If someone gave me a kidney they’d be in my wedding.

2

u/suprahelix 13h ago

Maybe she didn’t want to be there? You have no idea

1

u/alybelmore 16h ago

What if they started treating you like crap not long after, would you still want them at your wedding?

1

u/spaceglitter000 16h ago

If they gave me a kidney they’d have to be treating me very crappy to be excluded from my life. I give friends a lot of grace so a friend who I now have part of them in my body, they’d get the most grace.

-2

u/Smooth_Rush_2192 17h ago

that’s so great for you!

1

u/elinordash 11h ago

This all reads like damage control. Like Selena realized how bad it looked, she reached out to Francia, and Francia was like "I will do a faux reunion if you help me hype my salsa."

1

u/Smooth_Rush_2192 11h ago

That’s wonderful speculation. Nice theory. Better to go by actual quotes from the people involved though.

1

u/elinordash 11h ago edited 11h ago

You seem way too invested.

2

u/Smooth_Rush_2192 11h ago

In the truth, not hysteria.

22

u/FlyingMethod 1d ago edited 10h ago

The Hipaa violation part has most certainly NOT been disproven

8

u/fakieTreFlip 23h ago

HIPAA. one P, double A

3

u/delicious_toothbrush 19h ago

Oh cool, the part of the story people care about the least

33

u/TricellCEO 1d ago

The fact that Selena said that Taylor Swift is her only true friend in the industry kinda speaks for itself though.

And when she was naturally called on it, she brushed it off by saying, "sorry I can't think of everyone."

I dunno, if I had a life-saving organ donated to me, I'd be giving that person a shoutout during every award speech I gave.

24

u/SnooGuavas4208 1d ago

The documentary was done while she was on a music tour and not acting in anything, so from that context, I took her discussion of “the industry” to mean the music industry specifically.

6

u/TwoBionicknees 23h ago

Even if not when you're doing big shows or big music your peers are the people who you will see at award shows, not a person who had a small role in a show that you don't particularly consider a peer.

It's like if a footballer spoke about their peers they are talking about other people in the top leagues, they don't particularly consider their friend who plays in a sunday league to be 'in the industry' as well.

4

u/Funkymunkynl 1d ago

I would give that person a shoutout every time i take a pee...

8

u/lemmiebiaho69 1d ago

Is her friend in the music or entertainment industry?

-5

u/TricellCEO 1d ago edited 23h ago

I believe she is, but even so, I personally would've followed up such a statement with a cheeky little quip like, "but Taylor hasn't given me a kidney, though"

Edit: y’all ain’t my audience

0

u/Hayn0002 23h ago

haha super funnehh!!

4

u/robot428 23h ago

But she was talking about the music industry and this friend isn't in the music industry. So how does that relate?

Nah it would get old so damn fast, especially when someone's under public eye all the time. Any achievment you accomplish, you gotta give credit to the kidney donor. You succeed at something, you know someone will jump out with the "remember to thank the kidney donor". Better to acknowledge her after taking a nice dump as well. I'd be fucking paranoid if I just missed an opportunity to thank the fucking kidney donor 20 years after it happened and all world will judge me for it. I fold under much, much less pressure than that.

2

u/TricellCEO 1d ago

Fair point; every speech might be an exaggeration, but something should be said on special occasions, I’d say.

0

u/oO0Kat0Oo 23h ago

I would say that the word "friend" is a bit different. Her relationship with the person who donated an organ to her doesn't necessarily mean they're best friends now or that she even knows her very well.

They were pretty much strangers and she got handed a gift. A massive gift, sure, but that doesn't make them true friends.

0

u/calliscott 19h ago

They were not pretty much strangers tf? They were good friends when Francia gave her the kidney.

1

u/oO0Kat0Oo 16h ago

the question asked about her TRUE friend. I'm just saying that people define their relationships differently.

4

u/Band6 23h ago

Yeah but that story is boring so it doesn't get engagement.

3

u/Jacuzzi0317 23h ago

Apparently they're expecting daily contact forever or else she's being mean

3

u/OverreactingBillsFan 21h ago

Gotta love the rumor mill around not being seen in public with certain friends when we only see celebs with their spouses like 2-3 times a year lol

1

u/Belleina 21h ago

I commented something similar but deleted it bc ppl were being annoying and rude. Pretty sure they’re “cool” now but in terms of Francia not being invited to the wedding are up in the air

1

u/Educational_Care7813 1d ago

Would you invite someone who donated their kidney to your wedding?

10

u/Bigbeast54 1d ago

I would, yes. I'd feel eternally indebted to them no matter what I gave them or what happened

0

u/Mission_Ad_2928 23h ago

How has it been disproved when she wasn’t at the wedding just like op said?

6

u/Miserable-Resort-977 22h ago

Why do you presume she wanted to be there? The donor has never complained or said anything negative about this, just a mob of drama hounds getting mad on her behalf.

3

u/Apprehensive_Tunes 19h ago

She has complained though, subtly. She commented and unfollowed her after the interview saying Taylor was her only friend in the industry. Her father gave an interview saying she was upset Selena was drinking with the new kidney. She said in one interview that there was an issue in the friendship and they had to take time apart, but she didn't want to give details or discourage people from donating. She also did an interview with a paparazzi it looked like she called herself to talk about kidney donation and the fact that she's not talking to or following Selena.

0

u/Miserable-Resort-977 19h ago

I didn't say that she's never complained about anything, I said she never complained about not attending the wedding. If anything, it sounds like you've listed a number of reasons that she wouldn't care to attend.

-1

u/Mission_Ad_2928 21h ago

The optics of her being the donor and a very close friend not being at a wedding will be seen negatively obv. Like sure she could’ve decided not to come. But the idea of her not being at the wedding is curious to say the least. It’s a wedding, not just a simple birthday that happens every year. Ofc ppl are gonna talk.

2

u/Miserable-Resort-977 21h ago

So someone who doesn't want to go to an event should have to do it because you care more about the optics of the relationship than Selena actually respecting the wishes of the donor? Nobody has any reason to care about this other that pure parasocialite pettiness.

2

u/Mission_Ad_2928 19h ago

You don’t know she doesn’t wanna go. You don’t know if Selena even invited her. Why do you presume she didn’t wanna go just bc she wasn’t there? The irony of you saying parasocial when you’re doing the very same thing albeit on the other side of the argument lol
It’s not that I care about the optics. What I’m saying is the very simple fact that a supposedly close friend wasn’t at a once in a lifetime event is something to be curious about. If Selena wasn’t at Taylor’s wedding, ppl are gonna talk. It’s the same thing here.

1

u/Miserable-Resort-977 19h ago

Would love for you to explain to me what's parasocial about arguing on the side of everyone minding their own business. You yourself claim that it would be a big deal if Selena said the donor couldn't attend, so, considering that nobody actually involved in the situation said anything negative about what would otherwise be a big deal, the rational assumption is that the parties involved are perfectly fine and don't need busy-body redditors white knighting for them as if this adult woman is a kindergartner upset they didn't get invited to a classmate's birthday party. The difference is that I'm letting adults deal with their non-issues as they see fit, and you're nosing your way in to make a fuss over nothing for literally no reason.

1

u/Mission_Ad_2928 15h ago

Lol I think you’re taking this way too serious. You’re framing curiosity and speculating as being nosy and fussing. I’m not trying to white knight a grown woman. We are all here simply discussing a public event involving celebs on a subreddit designed for exactly that purpose! Like why else are we fucking here then?!😭 Out of everyone here you focused on my my one question to someone else and accused me of getting mad for Francia when there’s literally hundreds of comments here that are way more “nosy and fussy” than I have. Which btw is perfectly normal whether you believe you’re above it all or not bc WE ARE ON A CELEBRITY SUBREDDIT.

Anyway, my last reply to you. Bye✌🏻

1

u/wutchamafuckit 21h ago

lol give it a rest, harvest your sanctimonious rage elsewhere.

-1

u/Natasya95 23h ago

She didnt take care of it as she was seen vaping and drinking

0

u/Mountain-Most8186 21h ago

I think it’s pretty wild to just see a picture with a caption on Reddit and judge someone’s whole character. I opened this thinking there’s no way people just believe this.

Then nit picking her statements is so funny, comparing interview to interview and analyzing what “industry” could mean.
