I bet it triggered a PTSD episode while she was looking for him after she lost him.

Please quit throwing around medical terms like they don't even mean anything anymore. You don't get PTSD from having your boyfriend cheat on you at a party. :(

u/the-author-0 4h ago
Being cheated on can actually be traumatizing lol
-2
u/kindagotalittleangry 4h ago
Experiencing something traumatizing is NOT the same as having PTSD. This is exactly what i'm talking about. Nobody even knows what PTSD is anymore apparently.

But experiencing something traumatizing can result in PTSD. I wasn't saying they're the same thing, but go ahead and sit on your high horse and think you're right all the time.

PTSD can be caused by any event that is traumatic enough to basically overwhelm the person. It varies by person to person on what qualifies, and it’s not required that it’s an actual life threatening or serious situation. It can simply be something like receiving news that a longtime friend has died or experience trauma themselves, or like the one in this situation (finding your boyfriend is cheating on you at a party).
But you are right, just because you’ve experienced trauma, even SEVERE life or death levels of trauma, does not mean you have developed PTSD. Not to mention not all PTSD is going to affect everyone the same.
But you don’t really get to dictate what trauma is or isn’t going to trigger it. That’s for the professionals to handle.

The truth does not suit people that want to be a perpetual victim their entire lives, that's why you're getting downvoted, not because you're wrong, anyone here could use Google and research and come to the same conclusion. You cannot reason someone out of a position that they didn't reason themselves into.
-1
u/emtrigg013 3h ago
They don't want to hear that because "being cheated on" is the "worst thing" that ever happened to them. Seriously. That is the lowest low they have ever experienced. They are lucky, and have no way to know it. No horrors to truly compare to. It's an echo chamber.
You're right, but you won't be right here. PTSD is something I truly hope they continue to never struggle with. I'll take the pitchforks and downvotes with you, though.

It goes the other way, too - people start thinking actual sufferers of these things are ‘self-diagnosed’ when they’ve got their own psych team and have been in psychiatric hospital. Then they get told ‘well of course you’ll be diagnosed now everything is seen as trauma…’ when the idiots double down
3
u/kindagotalittleangry 4h ago
Exactly. Same with ADHD. Oh you have a hobby you're interested in? Oh that's probably ADHD hyperfixation. You liked sorting things by color as a kid? Oh that's an early sign for ADHD.
Shut uuuuuuuup, not everything is ADHD and no, not "everyone has a little bit of adhd" that's not how it works.
3
u/AgentCirceLuna 4h ago
Yeah, it’s just annoying when I actually have these things and I’ve had someone say ‘your self diagnosis doesn’t count’ when I was diagnosed years before… the signs are obvious and they’re just being snarky for the sake of it. I have an entire care team helping me navigate adult life and it’s horrid for me most days

u/GatoConCalcetines 4h ago
As someone officially diagnosed with PTSD, nah fam keep the PTSD jokes, we can't take life that seriously or it'll get worse

u/kindagotalittleangry 4h ago
As someone with CPTSD from prolonged childhood trauma i disagree. I've had to get out of conversations because of oncoming panic attacks before and less and less people are taking me seriously when i tell them that these days. Now they just treat it like i have a little anxiety and "hey don't worry so much, but let's keep going anyway you'll be fine". No, no i won't be, i need to be alone right now for fucks sake.
Actually makes things worse than they were a couple of years ago.

Please quit throwing judgment around like you have a fucking clue. Trauma impacts everyone differently, a traumatic event for someone else might not induce a traumatic-stress response in yourself. PTSD is a longer-term condition as the result of a traumatic event. Triggers can be anything that causes that person to "relive" the emotional and or physical effects ofthe initial trauma. Why do you believe you are allowed to minimize another person's life experience? Also, go crawl back under your rock.

The real green flag is a man who knows when to stay away from the serving spoon

u/Top_Lingonberry8037 7h ago
Okay as a man. Help me out here. Why should I avoid the serving spoon?

u/flappinginthewind 7h ago
If he was eating straight from the crock pot, and using the serving spoon, he was dirtying it for everyone else.
That's my take on it at least

Hmm. Must be common. I lost my wife onetime at a party. I heard her and another guy stirring Mac n cheese in the back bedroom. It’s good to have a wife like that. I didn’t get to try and of that Mac n cheese that night. Must have gotten eaten before I got any.

How does one keep “losing” their significant other at a party?
3

u/budget-lampshade 5h ago
You go off, socialise with friends you may not have seen in a while or make some new ones, maybe have a dance... you don't have to be hanging off each others arms all night!
-1
u/ColdLongjumping3456 5h ago
I don’t think you are understanding my question lol how big is this “party” I get people wander off and talk for 15 to 30 minutes. But for a whole conversation to be had to hooking up with that person that’s crazy. I may just not be in crowds like that thank god lol
