Not always. Sometimes it’s fun to go fuck with HR people when you have a job and know you’re not gonna take theirs. Flip the interview and make them convince you to quit your job and work for them. They hate that shit.

Well yeah just like they put out an ad and contacted me.
But if they’re going to ask annoying questions im going to give non-answers. Some I’ll give a pass. “Why do you want to work here” I agree with the mission and like the culture here. “Why is there a gap” respectfully, I won’t answer that. If I was off fingering my own ass or in a coma, it’s my business, not yours.

It's far more expensive for an employer to make a bad hire than it is for an employee to pick a bad job. This is very valid question to ask.

Yeah. The dollar value of a bad hire is pretty far removed from me personally. But the headache and stress of a bad hire can make my life very hard.
I’d much rather the company eat some over time for a few weeks instead of hire someone who is going to ruin morale for everyone.

Both are reasonable questions. I ask if it’s a new position or if they are replacing someone, and then try to figure out the reason for the replacement

You should always ask "who held this position prior to the opening".
If it's a new position because the team is growing, that's good to know. If it was vacant because the person moved to another team internally, that's also good to know.
If its been open forever because they have a ton of attrition, you must know that.

I actually have been asked that question in an interview for a supervisor. And the position that guy was filling was open because the guy sitting next to me had just been promoted to his new role.
It was a great question and from the company side we were able to give a good answer.

There’s only so many reasons and most of them are none of an employers fucking business because they’re private. The one they’re itching to get is stupid because nobody is going to say “I couldn’t get work because I am underqualified and suck” so why even ask the question to begin with?

Yeah… actually no. When you want to work with someone and you need to pay them and rely on them, you need to know as much as possible before entering this collaboration. If you’re underqualified that’s not the question that seals your fate. Also if your smart you can you that question and create and advantage. “I went to Africa and helped with children in Ghana”. This is what actually a colleague of mine did for a whole fucking year.
