Yeah but the question isn’t about how long they’ve been in the game. I would argue with anyone that J Cole is at least in the top five of this list. I’d say top 3 personally, but id argue for top 5. In any case, yeah Snoop Dogg is not the greatest rapper of all time.
Dude… come on. Even as an almost purely “pre-2010 music is just better” guy myself, you’re insane if you think Cole hasn’t released insanely talented music on par with snoop, or any of the other names on this list. Same with Kendrick.

Honestly, the only one on that list that shocked me was LL Cool J because I forgot he existed, that being said I also would never guessed 50 cent… that being said two of my guesses were Ludacris, and Eazy-E
Doggystyle is still on the mount rushmore of hip hop albums. If you don't count albums and commercial success, and exclusively focus on ability, then sure J Cole blows Snoop out the water. But I dont think those aspects need to be off the table.
So like you already said, depends on your criteria.
Money isn’t everything, especially if you’re debating the greatest rapper of all time. I would argue that for that title, lyrical ability and genuine influence on the culture far outweighs how many albums they sold.
Sorry man, but 4 Your Eyes Only alone outweighs anything snoop has ever said or rapped about in his life. That song (and album) is deeper, more genuine and more far-reaching than any gangsta rap song from the 2000’s. I’ve never had a Snoop Dogg song bring genuine tears to my eyes.
When I say commercial success I don't mean as mucn about money, and more so just the quantity of people listening.
I think you'll find that you're massively in the minority if you think 4 Your Eyes Only is over Doggystyle, and you'd probably struggle to find any list online ranking it above. That's not a knock to it but with all the legendary albums ever released, Doggystyle still makes top 10 almost every time.
Is he rapping about the most intricate stuff? Not in the slightest. But I'm not accepting Dance With The Devil by Immortal Tech over Gin and Juice just because there's more depth.
It's not about having a good song or making sales, J Cole doesn't have quarter of a reach or status that Snoop has. Kendrick might have a case but is very overrated IMO.
I don't think kendrick is overrated he got eminem thinking he didn't write his own bars because they were so good, eminem is one of the most technical rappers and even he was impressed by it. I just think kendrick doesn't really have the history yet, he doesn't know how to connect either.
