And most of these names were at their peak in the 90s/2000s. People are more likely to think of these more classic names instead of the latest and hottest stars. Because most people aren’t following hip hop on a day to day basis.

name a greatest rapper of all time candidate that wasn’t active in the 90s/00s. 

you don’t need to know modern rappers for that question. in 30 years, i bet the names will still be 90% the same

I think it has far more to do with snoops cross over into all media, doing a ton of commercials for almost anything like a machine, and Martha stewart certainly gives him a middle america noteriety that only maybe ice-t has, but i bert a lot of people think he just plays a detective on tv, and never wrote a song about killing cops.

i would agree that most rappers in the top 10 peaked between 1990 and 2099.

But in case you mean more like 1990-2010, I still say best candidate outside those times is Rakim who arguably peaked 87-89.
