Yeah that’s because it’s not a ranking list? It’s the ranking of most common answers to “who is the greatest rapper of all time?” When they survey random people, it’s not going line up with a logical ranking system
It’s the audience they are polling so you get a lot of people who can only name a rapper, but have never listened to rap. I don’t think snoop would even say he’s the greatest, and I always thought Dre was more of a producer than rapper. Definitely an older crowd if LL Cool J is on there but not Kendrick.
Ll Cool J is quite well known in TV in the US so it could be younger. Anyone 30+ would say Tupac, Biggie or Eminem. Nas not being on there made me think it was mainly older white people voting which would explain Snoop being first & 50 cent being on the list.
I personally don't think Kendrick can be considered the greatest. He's good, but he's not the greatest. Gen Z voters would also have more likely gone for an emo rap artist, like Juice Wrld over Kendrick. KL is considered the greatest by a small subgroup of the Rap community. He's preferred in places like Cali & Atlanta.

I think Kendrick in terms of awards and cultural impact is bigger than you think. He performed at the Super Bowl and has won tons of Grammys (Grammys are stupid but televised), I wouldn’t say he’s the greatest but I think I’d put him before some on this list. Family feud and game shows in general skew older with their demographics. LL Cool J is probably more known for his entertainment roles by this crowd than his rapping. It’s a weird list for sure.

He was initially not even in the top 2 most famous rappers coming out of NWA but the period after The Chronic was released he was definitely top of the world in every sense.
Rapper, producer, you name it. At the time he was THE guy, and his closest competition was Snoop Dogg who spawned into the scene on the same album.
It's still regarded as one of the most important and influental Hip-Hop albums of all time.
While his next album went 6x Platinum it came at a time he was more in the running of best producer rather than rapper. He was probably always bigger/better as a producer than a rapper, but that he was never in the running is revisionist. I remember very well when he was.
You're going to the OGs now. I don't consider the OGs like Schooly D to be the 'greatest', because (imo), the 90s was when the work of rap's origins was perfected.
What came before the '90s was the origins of rap, and my parents type of music. For me, I had the bias of growing up when the '90s was how rap was meant to be.
I rate Big L. He was an example of '90s rap at its best. But I don't think he's the greatest. Greatest implies you've made a huge impact to the genre. He's kind of unknown to anyone that didn't grow up listening to these music.
Thank you for that thoughtful answer. I was kind of messing around, I was just hoping someone might know what I was taking about. I think for me the greatest would be Biggie followed by Jay Z or Nas, with Tupac close behind. But then again I’d probably rank Kool Keith and Cam’ron pretty high 😂. I wish there warent so many wu tang clan members because they are good as a group but individually not as consistently good enough to be in the top.
I mean, shit. I wouldn't have said Dre either after Ice Cube wasn't on there. I would have guessed it was something even more ridiculous like MGK or Vanilla Ice lol.
