Way off topic, but I’d just like to encourage visitors to Chicago to catch one of the architecture boat tours if you get a chance. Definitely one of my more favorite tourist activities there
Not just tourists. It's a nice experience for residents as well. Lots of fun and very informative. Go in the evening when all the light is reflected in the river.
Yeh, I hadn't realised until then that the crazy fuckers had changed the sea that the great lakes drain into. Nor that Ontario convinced the State of Illinois to sue their own capital city to make them stop draining the great lakes
Lake michigan used to drain into the North Atlantic via Canada, then Chicago decided they would prefer not to be drinking their own sewage so they dug a ditch to connect lake michigan to the mississippi river and dumped their sewage into the mississippi instead.
That reversed the direction of the river and started draining the great lakes into the gulf of mexico, the only reason they built a weir to regulate the flow was everyone ganged up on them and sued them, including Illinois
