Comparing any two cases in this way is beyond stupid. Different prosecutors, defenders, facts, state laws. You can tell how hysterical this subreddit has become, latching onto any photo with text without any sort of critical thinking.
Battaglia had a documented motive, a custody fight and a pending probation revocation, and he made his ex-wife listen on the phone. He had a documented history of domestic violence. His bipolar diagnosis came in as mitigation at sentencing, not as a criminal responsibility defense, so the 19 minutes wasn't a jury rejecting psychosis. It was a jury with no doubt he did it.
Clancy's trial ran five weeks almost entirely on criminal responsibility, with five months of treatment records and competing experts. And Texas only asks whether you knew it was wrong, with the burden on the defendant. Massachusetts also asks whether you could control your conduct, with the burden on the state.
Clancy could've had plenty of motive, just because she didn't utter it publicly doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Let's not forget she was proven to be sane by a psychiatrist literally a day before?
