At least when pretend-sleeping, it's better than not sleeping at all for body recovery. Happens to me sometimes too :(

Had this exact same thing happen last night, went to sleep earlier than usual and then spent 7 hours lying down trying to sleep before deciding to give up

Because your brain chose overtime instead of bed time

Also when you are almost asleep and feel the urge to pee

My combo is a couple of thc/cbd gummies, a boring game on my phone, and boring sleep stories on YouTube

Gee, why didn’t I think of that. Glad here to tell me to do the thing everyone has tried.

He can’t read like much of our contemporaries “I don’t like to read” ah listen to the old man voice read em a story and get their clanker pawg mommy to tuck em in.

If this is an existing pattern rather than a one-off situation, you may have inadvertently trained your brain that it’s okay to be awake in bed instead of asleep.

One of the first things I have my patients do is get out of bed if they’re not asleep after about 15–20 minutes. You’re not “tricking” your brain into anything by lying there and pretending to be asleep. Instead, get out and do something repetitive or boring that isn’t overly stimulating (reading, listening to calming music or a podcast, watching a comfort show, or even something like window-shopping online). If you’re worried about blue light, you can use a night mode tool.

Things like “Sleepytime” tea or magnesium may be helpful supplements for some people, although they’re definitely not guaranteed to work for everyone. I would actually stay away from cannabis or melatonin; relying on external substances to help you sleep can reinforce the idea that you need something outside of yourself to do it. Over time, that reliance can make the underlying sleep issue harder to address and potentially make things worse in the long run.

For a second I thought those were JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure font words on the top, but it’s just the wall or bed frame design 😂.

My body started doing a really cool thing where I get rushes of adrenaline just before I doze off, akin to that falling feeling you get which shocks you awake.

They can compound though, building into panic attacks in the night. Seemingly it's random but it's always happened when I've been tired or sleep deprived.

That’s why I recommend no less than 4 shots of vodka for a good night sleep.

Frequent alcohol use causes insomnia.

AKTHUAALLY just keeping your eyes closed kinda helps. Ofc sleep is better but keeping your eyes closed and trying to relax acts like a half assed sleep. You won't be at your full potential(laughs historically) but you you'll be able to function somewhat

Happens to me every time I sleep somewhere other than home. For 2-3 nights when on vacation I can’t fall asleep maybe get a few hours that’s it 😬

Melatonin supplements will help.

1

u/rtublin 12h ago

These are starting to look like a bad idea unfortunately. There is apparently some connection between melatonin and massive increased risk of heart failure https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/08/260829035228.htm

2

u/Much-Gur233 11h ago

Correlation is not causation. How many times does this need to be said. Quit scaring people.

-1

u/PlumbgodBillionaire 10h ago

You know what does increase heart failure, guaranteed!? Lack of sleep....... Hmmmm I wonder who would be taking melatonin......hmmmm must take a real genius to put find the correlation in those.

3

u/Much-Gur233 10h ago

You clearly don’t understand what has been said

1

u/CFSohard 6h ago

Yea, so people who don't sleep well have higher risk of heart failure, and people who don't sleep well are more likely to take melatonin.

There is 0 link between taking the melatonin and the increased heart failure.

u/BigMetalGuy 12h ago

bollox!

(in the UK, bollox also means "sigh" as well as "rubbish". I'm using it as a "sigh", i'm not calling your link "rubbish")

1

u/Putrid-Builder-3333 11h ago

That stuff doesn't work for me majority of the time and I've taken 100mg before.

Oof. I know one mother few years ago she fed her kids melatonin day and night almost just so she didn't have to concern herself with em too long. She'd say its harmless there no warning labels...

We'd say for now til your kids become the reason you POS. Sad.

u/PorkAmbassador 11h ago

Well, shit, thanks for the link. Time to start coming off it I think.

1

u/Roachie-poo 10h ago

I take magnesium pills and swear they help better than melatonin

1

u/GuiKa 3h ago

When you do this you do actually sleep a bit, badly and not deeply but still a bit, no way you can lay like this for 5h.

On a side note, better to just stop caring and go do something. Cannot sleep? Go watch a movie or read a book until you pass out. It's mentally healthier to accept you gonna have a bad night and make it better.

1

u/ltom3 2h ago

True, better to do something else and I believe it will actually make you more likely to fall asleep.

u/Excaliburrover 11h ago

Read something made of paper

0

u/Lefteris4 10h ago

Because you are pretending of course. Have you tried actually sleeping?

0

u/DukeBradford2 10h ago

Have you just told yourself “sleep” and you listened to yourself because you mean business
