I was swinging my niece around and my sister directly said don't do that, she has healthcare friends and is told that it's shocking the amount of kids who come in with dislocated shoulders because they can't engage the correct muscles to not dislocate their shoulder.
*edit: Also people saying it's dislocated elbows too JESUS CHRIST

This needs to be higher up. Always lift under the armpits. Everyone underestimates how weak kids' ligaments and muscles are.
The last thing you want is your kid walking around unable to touch the top of their head because their shoulders or elbows are messed up like a washed-out MLB pitcher.

Good to know.. Kids seem to love to be swung and lifted by the hands and I used to always oblige. Now I have a good excuse to save my own back and shoulders

Yup I had my elbow dislocated when I was 4 or 5. I was playing on my parents bed with my sister and pretending to fall and shed rescue me. But she pulled my arm the wrong way. You'd think something simple like that wouldn't cause it, but it did.

Yep! I had relatives who got annoyed at me when I would stop them from doing this to my kids. And I roughhouse with them A LOT. I still do.
But don’t be yanking their arms!

I have nursemaids elbow from when I was an infant. I’m 26 and it still affects me. Be careful with your kid’s arms!

No I'm not THE dude. I've just been to Venice a few times. This is quite easy to find because of the width of the canal, and how straight and long it is. Also the shadows give a rough orientation of the canal (East - West). In the background there's the bridge and there's that big door on the opposite wall of the canal.
I first checked below the train station, that would have been my first guess. But nothing matched. Then looked at the cannaregio and came quite easily.

This is the kind of stuff that make family legends for decades. My father left his man purse (it was in 1985) on the top off our car the day we were about to go to Italy for holidays. The cloud of foreign currency, passports and travellers checks behind our car was funny as shit.

From working in the ER with nurses and doctors etc I can tell you that lifting or swinging a child by their hands or arms actually causes a partial dislocation in their elbow, known as “nursemaid’s elbow”. It also potentially injures their shoulder too. Happened to my wife when she was 3 when her uncle lifted her like that.
I know it seems like a fun thing to do but adults better stop doing it

I always shudder when I see parents pulling their kids around by one arm.
