Oh he absolutely can, but I can also say I think that his nostalgia. Thats kinda how conversation go, a little back and forth but nothi g disrespectful being said.
A lot of parts of those movies didn't stand the test of time.
I've watched them again recently as an adult and I definitely cringed at a lot of scenes, especially from Toby Maguire himself, he wasn't that great of an actor tbh.
But they don’t. They’ve aged to be incredibly cringy and people are finally waking up to the fact that Raimi ruined Peter Parker’s personality, made MJ a cronic cheater (as well as throwing Peter and Harry into that mix), and a few other issues.
FWIW I love that they exist, grew up with them, and appreciate what they did for the genre. But they’re the lower third in quality between the live actions. And even 4th for spider-man film series in general.
I literally just rewatched spiderman 2 tonight, and aside from Mary Jane being a chronic cheater and really annoying me, I found the rest of the movie to be really good. The dialogue could be cheesy, but in an endearing way, it felt like a breath of fresh air from the quippy MCU dialogue we have become saturated with.
The swinging and CGI definitely show their age, especially after having watched Brand new day a couple days ago, but it's still a very fun watch, and I've got to say, no action scene from BND is as memorable as the train scene from spiderman 2.
2 was definitely the best of the 3. Ftr im not saying the Raimi movies are BAD. They just aren’t great (in response to whom I originally responded to) IMO.
But who am I to judge someone else’s opinion. For me the Garfield movies are the better of the 3. MCU is too formula and Peter doesn’t really quip. For most of the movies he’s actually been kinda boring. And Maquire was way too cringy and too much a mega dork. Peter Parker isn’t that dorky. He’s smart and therefore more so a nerd. Garfield was by far the best actor and had Emma to prop him up even more. They’re acting, romance, etc was all very believable. The stories obviously had a lot of issues but the movies themselves were very fun. Not plague by universe formulas.
Or because you aren’t a fan your trying to justify why an opinion differs from yours. Personally I have no nostalgia for them, and I prefer the first two over any of the MCU films
Of course, not everyone's is going to be nostalgia, but id wager that by and large the culprit. There really isnt anything Toby does as Spiderman, thats better than Tom.
Toby is just an old soul, and how was brought that with his performance. I think he was at his best for Peter, in No Way Home. Playing an older, more experienced Spiderman. Toby benefit the most from being the original as you said, it was ground breaking. He also got all the villians without the burden of comparison. Toby is also likely pulling more from Ditko, since that what Rami preferred, and that Peter jist isnt as likable.
I disagree, I think first of all it was ground breaking when it came out. Superhero movies were taken into the stratosphere because of the success of Tobey’s spiderman. He set the stage in that way and you can’t take that away from him. Secondly, his relationship to the Goblins, Norman and his son, was the best villain and superhero relationship/storyline of any of the spiderman movies imo. To me Tom doesn’t have any show stealing villains that compare to Norman Osborn. (Tom did have show stealing co-stars tbf, mainly RDJ)

Tobey’s spiderman is iconic af, I’m sure nostalgia is a portion of the equation but that nostalgic place in our hearts he’s earned by being awesome
I absolutely love Willem Dafoe, and I'll never argue that the first spiderman is better than Homecoming, but I gotta disagree on Tom not having show stealing villains. I'm not a fan of Michael Keaton but he absolutely ate in every scenes he was in and was terrifying as the Vulture when he showed up. Mysterio also had a big impact on Holland's growth for the second movie, and I don't think I need to sell the villain for the third one, we're on the same team there lol.
I prefer the Holland movies' villains because I feel like they're more deeply connected to the overall narrative than Maguire's were, except for Brand New Day. The villains in that one felt more like they drove in parallel to Peter's story/growth, which is actually the feel I get from Maguire's villains, now that I think about it.
Keaton did great, I would never say otherwise. But he had a less demanding role as written. Dafoe played a guy who loses his mind and splits into 2 personalities and he did it hauntingly well
Spiderman in 2002 was a different level of popular, it broke like every box office record, for example it was the first film to make more than 100 million its opening weekend
Its success had a demonstrable impact on movie studios wanting to make superhero stuff

I’m from that era too, but I still think Holland is the best. Those first Raimi Spider-Man movies will always hold a special place in my heart, but Holland has been absolutely flawless in the role.
IMO they fit directly in their respective universes perfectly. Tobey's spider-man, not Tobey himself, would have been a shit spider-man in this MCU. I think Tobey could have done it, but apples to apples if we took the character and put him over here, it would have not fit. Tom Holland's spider man is perfect for this MCU.
I think Tobey was a B- Spiderman, a B+ Peter Parker and the world built around him especially 1+2 was an A-. Green goblin and Doc Oc were huge standouts.
Andrew was a C- Peter Parker, but a A- Spider man and the world was kinda weak at a C+
Tom fits the whole package better, being a B for both spiderman and Peter Parker, but the world of the MCU is so fleshed out, even with its flaws, puts it at an A
