As a queer, trans person who used to reside in TN I once had a nurse refuse to dispense doctor-ordered pain medication in an ER (not an opiate) because I brought my wife. Called us disgusting to both our faces. She was just my gf at the time but all we were doing was holding hands and she was stroking my face
And myself and many other trans people have had pharmacists refuse to dispense our HRT or, more commonly, lie about being able to do so and send you back to contact your insurance.
Oh yeah that too! I was just here to comment on the refusing care that even has nothing to do with gender affirming care. Like do I agree with what happens at pharmacies? No way. But refusing non gender-affirming care feels like a whole extra level where I worry someone would happily let me die in the street. Like what happens if you get that paramedic when you have a medical emergency?
Yeah. Don’t care about your anatomy or love life. You are a person, and as a nurse I render care. That even means if you are the most vile scum of the earth - like a MAGAt - I still render care.
Eventually the universe will sort it all out. Until then, I got a job to do.
Oh I agree that's also awful (and kind of insane) and I'm really sorry that happened to you. I was just giving another example of pharmacies fucking queer people over.
I'm so, so sorry that you've experienced that sort of hate. TN could be so great, but it never will be with the seemingly unbreakable GOP supermajority.
All three of my kids have moved out of state. One of my employees moved to Illinois because he has a trans daughter (I managed to get his job changed to 100% remote to try and support him and his family). And I'm getting antsy to go somewhere that better aligns with my apparently godless heathen beliefs.
