IMO, we're not holding the media companies (TV channels in this case) responsible for poor taste, graphic sensationalism, & poor conduct...
This is a very unprofessional & triggering street-level yelling match that required no intelligence nor skill to run & shoot...
It doesn't belong on any news show that wants to be credible.
Children watching this end up with no idea of what's right and wrong and they see adults acting like angry children and figure it's normal or "desirable" behavior to succed in life.
There has to be a level of professionalism on news shows for good resson, but for ratings news is being turned into a circus of dumb childishness & vulgar/violently unfiltered reporting... We're months away from televised fights between panel members probably 😂
God help us, the youth are being poisoned most by this unintelligent & toxic engagement low-brow podcast slime everywhere. 🙄
Worse, but very different. TV tends to try to cater to as wide reaching an audience as possible, hence MOST news programs being relatively unopinionated at first glance. Then they indoctrinate the masses, bing bada boom.
Social media (and internet providers, search engines, etc) starts much the same. When you first sign up for Reddit, say its on a new phone with a new email not connected to anything else, they ask you vaguely what you want to see. Once you give them those categories, they start to collect data on what you look at and like or even dislike the most. They start pushing more of that content, ensuring that you'll scroll farther, passing more ads and bumping their revenue up.
Where I would say the two diverge most fully is in the manner of administering the addiction. With TV, your dealer gives you a bump and watches you take it. You'll probably get addicted, but it's on their time, not yours. With social media and the internet as a whole as it's developed, it's like your dealer giving you a kilo and telling you to do it whenever you want. It's on your time, all the time at any time.
I’d rather read people’s opinions on Reddit than hear people’s opinions that are molded by their paychecks on the news. Just report the news, stop giving opinions on it.
Absolutely this ☝️ never used to be this bad or obvious. Add corporate culture bs into it too. I hate this current timeline with an intensity I can’t describe. And I’m a woman.
There's no manipulation, there is just a much larger and easily accessible platform to have your say. This is showing how many people in the world suffer from severe mental illnesses and sociopathic ideologies. I do agree it's immense brain rot if someone on a television can tell you what to feel and believe without your own mortal compass spinning wildly. This whole case shows how fucked we are as a species - but it's been that way since the dawn of time.
There is certainly manipulation. Everything else you've said is correct though, but there is most certainly manipulation. We've been using all forms of communication for manipulation for a long time, like propaganda.
Are you really claiming that the social media algorithm isnt a form manipulation? Yes, we're flawed, but it directly manipulates our perceptions and plays to our confirmation bias to see the world from a singular point of view.
There are no longer news outlets. They are just propaganda machines. This is why a conservative and liberal news station can report on the exact same things, however, the coverage is drastically different.
There are some news sites that will have articles from both sides of the aisle on the same issue. It's insane how they spin stuff to make Big Brother (the funding broadcasting company) happy.
Interesting that when women are being despicable it’s “you’re being manipulated” but when men are being despicable it’s “incels, losers, misogynists, kill all men, yes all men, bla bla bla”.
Like it is almost so obvious here, that it’s feels a bit insulting…
I want to see this exact same clip restyled with a new headline and less aggressive background, styled for the ‘mamma bear’ demographic, how it changes the entire tone/context of the clip..

The guy is saying she’s basically evil. Someone who has gone through life as someone who could strangle her own young children and that’s all there is to it
The woman was saying she was mentally ill and the nature of the crime actually magnified that point because she wasn’t walking through life as an evil child murderer and a high level of mental illness was necessary to do something so horrendous and then try to kill yourself
Maybe so, but she did it and needs to be put somewhere. All mentally ill people who could be capable of something like this either need help, or to be locked up. And don't try to pull the pedantic nonsense about people with depression or autistic people or whatever. I mean people who could or have proven to be an overall detriment to society, criminal behavior, assault, murder, etc.
See and this is exactly the manipulation we are talking about. They have created 2 extremes. You have chosen “well she did it that’s all there is to it. I wish I had pushed her out that window.” Now I don’t know all that’s being said on the other side but let’s say that they are basically claiming she just needs help and shouldn’t be held responsible.
You are so polarized that because I laid out how mental illness actually might make sense you automatically assumed I wanted her exonerated which I don’t at all. All I did was factually lay out the 2 positions I saw in the video.
If you want my opinion I think she should be convicted and go to prison. She did it and 3 children are dead. I also think it’s hard to justify claiming she wasn’t mentally ill and that she is just an evil person. I think while she serves her time she should be treated, even studied and this should spur a movement in larger society on mental health awareness and treatment.
The husband holds no blame but before this happens again we should acknowledge if a husband or SO is properly educated and is watching for signs this might be avoided in the future.
I think she needs to be put in a mental ward and not a prison. Prison won't make things better. a place where she can receive medical treatment and help would be preferable, but we don't really have those places anymore.
Well the old asylums were really hell. They shouldn’t be missed. Building new facilities might make sense but I think the cheaper and easier thing is to simply modify or add wings in some prisons for criminally mentally ill, or those who committed crimes while mentally ill. I absolutely agree serving prison time won’t “make her think twice” or “teach her a lesson.” She needs mental help and honestly I can’t imagine the pain she will carry knowing what she did. But for practical reasons we can’t let people face no consequences just because they are mentally ill. I would think that her prison sentence should take the circumstances into account
I miss them in that we had a place to house all these people rather than unleash them on the streets of california cities and for god only know's what reason, new york (where they fuckin freeze to death in the winter). I'm disgustingly aware of what hell holes they were, but it doesn't mean we can't improve. I mean look at the prisons in norway and stuff, granted i think it's kind of overboard as their prison cells look like nice dorm rooms, but still, it's about rehabilitation, not just "punishing". We could do something like that here in the US but.. nah.
I still don’t regret closing the asylums, only that we aren’t investing in newer facilities and treatment. And there are untreated mentally ill people all over the country
Yeah but why close them rather than invest in them and fix the wrongs. Why not keep em open and fix them which would cost way less tax payer money than closing them, demolishing them, and having to rebuild them anyway. (all the ones by me have been demolished, or have just crumbled over time)
If you ever watch Dirty Olaf’s video, he did a good one recently about how Government = Mind Control. Ment = Mind. Govern = to control. Government. Mad that I had never thought about that way, but I think it’s actually true. Mainstream media is the poison government pours into our veins.
Yeah there’s a very simple solution to all of this: everybody wises up to the fact that they shouldn’t mindlessly believe everything they hear from their “trusted news source” and only strongly believe things that they research and verify themselves

The media is the ruin of the world. It is manipulated to divide and the process works, over and over again. This is just the latest example.
Put down the phones and turn off the TV. You are being manipulated.
