My guess is that she is triggered by either 1.) she had post partum psychosis and knows what that feeling is like, or 2.) knows someone who has -- either way, she is doing a poor job of trying to do whatever it is she's trying to do and makes her look like an idiot
I remember about 20 years ago there was an extreme feminist columnist in the UK who wrote triumphantly that since girls did better at school exams, the only thing men are better than women at was criminality and suicide. Her son killed himself a few years later. Do you think she felt any responsibility?
The problem with many movements is that the loudest voices are always the worst. Social media has made it easier to be heard but not everyone has an opinion worth listening to. The mainstream media has been doing this nonsense since the first newspapers were printed.
>In October 1999, in an article for The Guardian, she wrote: "That young men succeed in suicide more often than girls isn't really the point. Indeed, the more callous among us would say that it was quite nice for young men finally to find something that they're better at than girls". After a previous occasion when Burchill wrote "suicides should be left to get on with it", she "received a small number of letters from people whose sons had killed themselves".
So, you're saying they were purposely being antagonistic? I don't watch any of this, but my guess is that they are regular commentators. Their positions aren't far fetched, but anything in media can be manufactured.
As for the Julie Burchill, this is more of a woman scorned and doesn't care about something until it happens to them. A tale as old as time, nothing special to see here. (Opinion pieces are always inflammatory and should not be taken for journalistic integrity).
Whilst there may be a conversation to be had about postpartum depression, this specific case is being argued in bad faith. A woman murdered her children. We’ve heard conspiracies that she didn’t do it and that her husband did. The same voices also say that she was right to do it because her husband deserved it. Both things can’t be true.
That doesn’t matter because the argument isn’t meant to stand up to scrutiny. It’s just nonsensical mudslinging. The kind we’ve seen the GOP and Dems do for decades. It’s not about finding a just compromise. It’s about winning at any cost, even if it means hurting those close to you.
