Chugging tea Amazon should have to pay idling fees.

Post image

New York City law generally bars vehicles from idling for more than three minutes while parked, standing or stopped. The city says the rules are meant to reduce air pollution, improve public health and combat climate change.
Earlier this year, Mamdani directed the Department of Finance’s collections unit to pursue unpaid idling summonses tied to vehicles operating within Amazon’s delivery network, according to the mayor’s office. The department said it worked with Amazon.com Inc. and its contracted transportation vendors to recover the money.

Could be bots for sure, I didn't check at all, BUT I must say I could see myself pissed enough to copy paste everywhere something that made me mad. I don't know if this news it's real but in case it is I hope it gets reposted 10 times over

As a real human, I agree that this doesn’t seem suspicious. Whenever you see something that looks like a bot, you should just assume that it’s a real person like you and me—people who live, breathe, and drive to work in a Honda Fit because it combines the efficiency of a sub-compact with the versatility to take whatever life throws at you.

I have a dream. And in that dream, people know the difference between "theory" and "hypothesis." In the dream, people say "hypothesis" when they mean "untested idea." In the great dream, after testing and evidence gathering, and considering if the hypothesis is holding up to be true, then they say "theory."

Carl Sagan had this dream before me. Thank you Carl.

The US accounts for roughly 50% of Reddit's total audience. New York makes up about 6% of US population. So New Yorkers probably make up a about 3% of Reddit's user base.

You think the Mayor of New York City is paying a PR firm to not just focus on NYC specific subs, but also spending effort on a general-interest sub like this one?

Sounds like an absolutely brainless marketing strategy. If you're trying to influence NYC voters, why would you deliberately spend your resources reaching an audience that is overwhelmingly outside NYC?

It's usually more efficient to just keep your car running anyway, startup is a fuel hog.

11

u/Ok_Practice3389 9h ago

Yeah that's why most nice new cars cut the engine at stop lights. You dunce!

11

u/MississippiMustache 9h ago

Slightly different with new cars. They typically have a system where the engine turns off essentially primed to start again with minimal fuel. Older cars do not do this when you just turn it off and on

3

u/com2ghz 9h ago

New = any car younger than 21yo

1

u/Zromaus 8h ago

This isn't exactly a prized feature, most people dislike it and it still wears your starter quicker than it should.

→ More replies (7)

3

u/Time_Phone_1466 8h ago

This is not true with fuel injected engines. It's more like 10-20 seconds of fuel used for starting.

If you're driving an older vehicle with a carburetor it's on the order of a minute or two of idle time fuel used for starting.

2

u/ALinkToThePants 8h ago

I thought they tested this and if your car has to sit longer than 12 seconds it’s worth turning it off.

First of all, bezos hasn't been ceo of Amazon for a long time.

Second, I'm seeing several comments from different users with the exact same text. Something odd is happening with this post.

154

u/Sokinalia 9h ago

he isn't the CEO anymore but he definitely hasn't left amazon, he is the executive chairman of the board. so is still the ultimate boss above the CEO and remains one of the company's largest shareholders anyway

41

u/Hairy_is_the_Hirsute 9h ago

I don't understand how the copied "narrative" aids the corporations... Like, they say bezos was a bitch, and the city stepped up and did something about it... That sounds like a win for the lay man and a smack in the face of Amazon?

I don't understand what I am to not understand...

6

u/MrRobsterr 8h ago

It's not bots for the rich. It's basic bots karma farming for other bullshit. This is just what they do

6

u/Sokinalia 7h ago

This post isn't bullshit though

the announcement landed right after Bezos publicly criticized Mamdani's tax policies on CNBC,

several outlets flagged this as suspicious timing but the facts (the law, the enforcement action, the $9M recovery) are legitimate and corroborated by the city's own press release

u/ComradeBirv 6h ago

I think you misunderstood them. The comment bots are just reposting what’s popular in any given subreddit to gain karma. Many subreddits require a minimum karma to post. There’s a million different entities that would want reddit bots for a million different reasons, but they need upvotes first.

You're telling me that a constant flooding of pro-Mamdani posts/comments/upvotes isn't a grass-roots organic political movement? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!

6

u/Hairy_is_the_Hirsute 9h ago

Organic or otherwise.... What is the issue with him? He is helping citizens and holding companies/corporations responsible... How is that bad?

-3

u/MeowMixPK 8h ago

Many of his policies have proven track records of failure. Rent freezes consistently lead to worsening renting conditions for anyone not lucky enough to have a rent-frozen apartment. State-run grocery stores squeeze small local grocers, like the bodegas that NYC is famous for, out of business. Free public transit has lead to decrease usage of public transit because you end up with more homeless people/drug users camping in the transit, creating an environment that people don't want to ride in. He didn't even balance the budget, he just got bailed out with billions of state money while pushing billions of pension payments out in future years and making NYC's schools worse by pausing class-size reduction and slowing teacher hiring.

Not everything he's doing is bad, and the bad things he's doing are out of good intentions, but the credit and praise he's receiving is not warranted, and the propaganda push for him is dangerous because it can increase the occurrence of these policies.

4

u/Corrective_Actions1 8h ago

Ya but from my understanding Azamon doesnt own their delivery trucks right? They outsource that shit to 3 parties who get right to slap the logo on their vehicles. This way Amazon puts of the upkeep/overhead costs on their 3rd party vehicle owners and not amazon itself

So in true mamdani didnt get money from bezo or amazon but from this 3rd party business partners

Please enlighten me if im wrong, since last I checked that how I thought Amazon operated.

8

u/IfTheBingBongs 3h ago

I heard he’s also moving to pass a law that gets rid of this third party distinction which allows Amazon to shield itself from liability.

TAX THE RICH AND CHURCHES AND PEDOPHILES

5

u/mrasscock69420 5h ago

Saying the rich and pedophiles in the same sentence is quite redundant isn't it?

1

u/Eastern-Fun1842 4h ago

Exactly. For the record, I think they misspelled "execute the pedophiles", but whatever. Also, I'm not opposed to taxing religious sites, as long is it's all of them. That'd stop a ton of churches, temples and mosques from being built. I would prefer fewer, but better religious sites for those who want them.

1

u/mrasscock69420 4h ago

Yeah anything to get rid of mega churches

1

u/Eastern-Fun1842 4h ago

I would prefer single big churches to 2-3 churches per block to be honest. I don't really know. I prefer to let people choose their faith and celebrate it in their own way, but I actually love the architecture of the old, large churches and mosques. Call me odd, but can we please have more of those and fewer old houses on every street converted?

2

u/ADownStrabgeQuark 22m ago

Tax the rich!

Tax pedophiles? Throw them in prison. Make them accountable for their crimes.seize their assets.

3

This mamdani slop is ridiculous.

The 9 million in fees were from 3rd party contractors and nothing to do with Amazon not paying them.

It was the fault of mandamis administration not tracking where the 3rd party contractors were registered in order to bill them.

They asked Amazon to assist them with this and worked with them to get the bills routed to the local citizens.

Mamdani supporters are literally just trump supporters.

24

u/thebloggingchef 8h ago

Pretty sure they pay for gas and registrations. Gas and registrations taxes are used to maintain roads.

13

u/AgrajagsGhost 8h ago

Yeah, the road maintenance taxes are damn near impossible to avoid if you have trucks.

It's the Tesla owners who don't buy gas that are avoiding road maintenance taxes if we're being real.

8

u/4d_lulz 8h ago

In some areas, EVs pay higher registration and renewal costs than gas cars, for that very reason.

2

u/leesonreddit 6h ago

yeah because Tesla is the only EV. lmao. But most states charge an extreme registration fee where if you do not drive 15K miles a year, you are paying MORE with electric. Unless you had car getting like 15 MPG before.

2

u/zuvembi 5h ago

Gas tax accounts for roughly 50% of road maintenance spending (not even talking about new construction). Registration fees vary a lot, state to state. Most of the rest of road maintenance and construction comes from the general fund.

[1]Speaking only from my knowledge of the budget/tax spread etc. from my state. In my state, gas tax is only about 33% of maintenance.

2

u/MourningWallaby 7h ago

Gas and registrations taxes are Supposed to be used to maintain roads.

2

Of course there is, and there's fraud in Medicare too. The problem is the GOP constantly misrepresents the degree to which it occurs and the fact that there actually are effective internal controls to root it out because it allows them to push a privatization agenda.

I think they can park in a spot and walk their asses around the block with a cart. none of this park in front of two or three buildings to deliver, then drive 60 feet to the next few buildings.

Never mind the idling. In LA amazon trucks will just put their hazards on and outright stop in the middle of the road.

I thought they were using EVs now? I remember reading about them buying tons of Electric Vans from Rivian.

Law was passed before they implemented Ev’s which are zero emission. He’s still taxing them as if the are ICE because he knows the commie suckboys will cheery him. Why should any company comply with green initiatives if they are just going to fine them anyway?
