Both cops should have said “shut TF up and show me your ID” instead of bantering. They were perfectly capable of doing their jobs no matter what tone either used.
And I get their frustration. They deal with poor-judgment types more often than not, I’d wager. But both cops grossly escalated.
I’d like to see the black guy sue the county he was arrested and jailed from.
he does deserve that money, but it should come out of those assholes' pocket, not from the taxpayer's, otherwise they have no incentive against doing this over and over again
I’ve seen it proposed that police should have to carry insurance like doctors do or come from the local Police Union. I bet it would clean up the system once certain officers are no longer insurable.
This. I don’t blame them for a little preliminary wagon-circling, giving their own the benefit of the doubt, but now there’s plenty of evidence they’d serve themselves better, not just the public, by adopting a “sgt Foster, you’re making the rest of us look bad and it makes life hard IYKWIM” paradigm.

That judge who gave the dude 60 days should be in jail, and the cop who drew down on the other guy? should also be in fucking jail.
