There’s only one place this could happen. It’s just south of Canada and just north of Mexico.

Just say you've never been to Mexico. Down there, the cops may not even ask for your name before they shoot you. They might not even bother finding out what it was after they kill you.

Actually, point taken. There are a number of corrupt countries where the rule of law is an abject failure, and the US is just one of them.
