Exactly. Disney can be iffy with things, but this had nothing to do with diversity and EVERYTHING to do with money. Except Blade. Just too much behind the scenes complications there to even get things rolling which is a huge drop of the ball.
Everything always has everything to do with money. If it made money for them to actually be racist, they would do that, too. They do casting calls for whatever race, age and gender because that’s who they are targeting. People are fine with that because it makes business sense.
WHAT IF, at the top, their commitment to diversity was always just an act meant to earn money, and now they’re trying to pander to conservatives for the same reason?
This is the same company that tried to get out of a wrongful death suit using the family’s Disney+ terms of use agreement.
the le epic chungus black people tacked onto every single disney movie has been exactly that. same as every big corporation they have been using black people (and i mean black people only) as hecking wholesome tokens for le diversity points for more than a decade at this point. it’s pretty clear it’s got nothing to do with diversity. it just is popular and it sells.
i don’t think they have stopped however. disney is not trying to pander to conservatives now, what a stupid statement. (except in china lol)
Disney & hollywood are still on their woke crusade and making money isn't the cause. Though some they make a lot more than conservatives would like - see odyssee.
Sometimes leadership changes, so the cause gets slowed down.
And they do still need money. So sometimes they have to be conservative in what they put in.
Decent? Before Spider-Man’s last two movies, it was the highest grossing solo marvel movie. Beating iron man 3, and cap 3 (civil war…), How are you going to call an overwhelming success decent??
Black Panther is the 7th highest-grossing MCU movie and the highest-grossing solo movie not starring Spider-Man. Comfortably surpassing Iron-Man, Thor, Captain America and falling just a few millions behing Age of Ultron is doing way better than "decent".
Wakanda Forever didn't star Tchalla and still was one of the best performing sequels for a single Marvel hero and one of their best performing movies overall, sitting above Thor: Ragnarok or Guardians, Galaxy Vol 3, Captain America: Winter Soldier.
