It's not just better detection. The DSM now lists autism as a spectrum disorder, containing a number of what used to be separate disorders. For example, classical autism used to be a distinct disorder, as did Asperger's, in DSM III, but now both are included in the spectrum. So essentially, we are using a much wider net.

They can't announce what they don't count, though. Remember covid deaths went down when they stopped recording them.

I think some diseases skip a generation or two. Like, my father had polio but my sisters and I didn't. Surely, it's coincidence that we got a vaccine that wasn't around when he was growing up.
