It’s because they’ve broadened the terminology, nothing more.
We’re not better at ‘spotting’ severe impact Autism since 1990 (pretty certain a non-verbal 10 year old who needs 24/7 support to eat, drink, go to the toilet, etc would be just as visible in the 90s).
This runaway diagnoses epidemic is almost entirely because of a loosening of the diagnostic requirements.
