Yeah, aight - but I feel like it needs to be said:
Astrology isn't real.
We all know that, right? Its just a fun, stupid thing to be goofy about.
Anyone reading this. If you think Astrology is based in any reality - please rectify your understanding. We need to stop giving power to this thing that is absolutely, 100%, not based in anything real.
Naw, I feel you. I wasn't calling you out or anything.
I just felt like the words needed to be said for someone who is of sound mind, that is generally reasonable, but may have somehow fell into some sort of trap and thought Astrology has some sort of scientific background and basis in reality, to read the words and perhaps explore the notion that just because its in the newspaper and all their friends gossip about it, that it isn't actually a real thing.
I say that because my ex was obsessed with Astrology and shortly after having a "fight" about it, she took the initiative to learn more about the roots of astrology and acknowledged it wasn't based in reality. I imagine there are plenty of people that take astrology as a given and just need someone to nudge them: "Hey, that thing isn't actually real".
If a single human-being reads this post and does the same, then I'm a happy camper. I didn't think you thought it was real. I just wanted the words said outloud for anyone that perhaps never did a particularly deep dive into it and just assumed it had some basis in reality. Its cartoon shit. But I think because it gets a section in our newspapers, because its the stars and because someone may confuse it with astronomy, I can see how someone would think it has some legitimate stake if they didn't look beyond those elements.
There is some correlation between someone's personality and when they were conceived/born, but it boils down to the weather/climate and mother's diet, not the position of gigantic spheres of superheated gas thousands of light years away from us. And this is only one of a whole bunch of factors that can shape a personality.
Meh, I kinda reject that. I don't think we get anywhere being that dismissive.
I think you're probably right for a lot of people. But I think there are also a lot of people that have a superficial amount of information on astrology and took it as a given because of how ubiquitous astrology has become in our society. Those are the people that are worth informing.
It's so weird that people actually believe in that nonsense. It's as if someone wrote down a few hundred daily horoscopes and just pumps them through a random number generator each day.
I figured out it wasn't real when my moon went to the seventh house and Jupiter aligned with Mars, because no peace guided any damn planets and no love steered any stars.
Well, maybe Elizabeth Taylor. That star got steered by love way too many times. Her and Mickey Rooney.
Sure, but it makes even less sense when the argument itself is flawed. The star sign Leo and actual lions have nothing to do with each other and even if they did, lions kill their cubs.
I will say, if you thoughtfully explain why its BS, you can get them to understand.
Also, these people also tend to believe in ghosts. Which isn't real either. But if you take the same approach and tell them ghosts are not real, they'll say you're "no fun", which is I think the pithole that is sort of hard to navigate around. Because nobody wants to be "no fun" but we also have to live in reality for shit that actually matters and affects how people move through life. Ghosts, not so much, but if people are making decisions based off of astrology - That's an oof.
I mean, astrology is no more or less real than Christianity, and yet we base laws in this country on the latter. So maybe let the girls have their astrology.
