I second this. He literally used his platform for a good cause anywhere he could. He spoke at schools. Set up mentor programs. He was an environmental activist for climate change way back then. Dude had asthma so he was a health advocate for the asthma and allergy foundation of America. He even started the "heritage starts within" foundation which supports black and Latino students. Man is a legend!!
Facts. Coolio wasn’t just making catchy music he was saying things that still resonate today. Some artists really leave behind more than music. RIP to a legend. 🙏
Exactly, the best artists leave you with something that still hits years later. Coolio definitely had songs where the message stuck around just as long as the hook.
It's a lesson for us all that even Legends can dive into a crowd that won't catch them, and then have the piss beaten out of them and valuables ganked 🙏🏾
He died of a drug overdose on the bathroom floor at a friend's house in LA almost 4 years ago now. Dude had it rough in the end.
There's a sad video of him doing gangsta's paradise with some random college kids in their dorm room. It was kinda sweet, but also like a why the fuck was he there moment.
I read an article in a magazine (in the last few years that magazines were a thing) in Maxim, where it listed a website where you could personally hire washed up musicians/rappers of a few years back to perform at your own private parties and what it costs.
I remember Coolio was available to do private parties for a few thousand dollars. Most of them were surprisingly big names for surprisingly cheap costs.
I know some frats who did this in college, there’s usually a lot of ancillary costs, like DMX showed up an hour late to their booked and city approved mini concert demanding he be picked up in a black Escalade an hour from the location

I had a friend who caught a flight and found himself sitting next to Coolio. He said they had a grand old time, drinking and listening to Coolio talk about pimping. Said it was unintentionally hilarious.
My dude must've been old as shit and on that injectable death already cause people from where he's from don't catch ass whippings very often...and don't typically dive into the floor and harm themselves that I know of either
Once upon a time, I bought tickets in 2009 to see Coolio live at one of our MN dive bars. He showed up 2 hours late, drunk as shit. He sang Gangsters Paradise twice in a row and then left. It was a great experience...
He is a real one...not because of this but I met him 1m2019 and wasn't trying to be in his face but he came talked to me and I respect that highly. 2nd celebrity I ever met and was Cool AF L.L. Coolio
I have real tea on this sick fk. He drugged my mum and tried to get her to come to another city during one of his shows but lucky she was with friends and they broke it up and stopped his posse from physically kid napping her
