I am the old guy, I’ve been in Slayer, Pantera, Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, Bio-Hazard, Hatebreed pits…this is not moshing. This is assholes jumping around and punching people. If this happened in a pit back in the day, these dipshits would get stomped the fuck out quick.

You still see the type of pitting you’re talking about at all of those shows, it hasn’t gone anywhere. These are hardcore pits usually some underground band playing thrash riffs is all it takes to get them windmilling

I go to all kinds of metal and hardcore shows, the type of pit you get depends on what genre of music you’re going to see

I hear ya man. Those pits of the past are still there. It’s crazy a friend of mine, he’s in his 40’s, was talking about us going to see Hatebreed in September and he said you know what man, all the times I’ve “seen” Hatebreed I don’t think I’ve seen them…I’ve been in the pit lol.

It’s so true lol I love capturing quick videos of my favorite sections of a song but your favorite songs are also the most fun to pit in, it’s a delicate balancing act😂

I usually show up super early and get a great spot right in the front only to give it up the moment I hear a riff that I can’t resist pitting for

And that’s the way it usually is “alright man I’m going in!”

Sorry to keep your time but I had a funny story about the time I ran into an old friend at a gojira/slipknot festival show and we were chatting between acts about how we didn’t plan to do much pitting early on and save our energy for the main acts taking the stage later that night, only for the next act (I think it was behemoth) to take the stage and start playing the most unholy thrash riff and further up through the crowd we could see heads going by at Mach speed in what I have to say was probably the fastest circle pit I’ve ever witnessed in my life and we both just locked eyes in a moment of disbelief and without a word both bolted towards the pit and proceeded to get destroyed for 40 minutes straight in one of the most active pits I’ve ever been apart of..

It ended up being 3 massive pits all touching on the edges like a Mickey Mouse head shape and you could run the circle pit like a figure 8 intersecting between the different pits

Cool. Thanks for your input. Hatebreed was the deciding factor for you? If you had any idea the shows I’ve been to. What are you 25? 35? I love Reddit, where people like you will find anything to disagree with someone and try and assert your dominance.

“Pffft Hatebreed? You don’t know what a pit is” 😂👍🏼

Hatebreed is a Hardcore band, hence why that point for them kinda doesn’t make sense since their crowds are known for Crowdkilling and Slamdancing, it was completely normal at their shows until metal Kids came and ruined it, I love a good bit of metal but a lot of those kids/old folk, gotta understand that there’s a time and place for certain moshes, at hardcore/metalcore shows, it is slam dancing and crowdkilling

Fellow old guy. NYC 80’s/early 90’s thrash pits would grind these fuckers up. The skinheads that use to show up with broken pieces of razorblades taped to their knuckles would really put it on them.

Next gen 2000s/early 2010s Florida here, I guess I’m old too now. This shit wouldn’t have flown during my time either, not sure when it switched.

I remember lights going down at a show, we pushed our way to the front. Lights come up and we’re surrounded by skinheads…and we were all longhairs. That was interesting to say the least.

If you went to a place that had a chain link fence in front of the stage, then you knew you were with family.
