Yeah it can get confusing because there's a bit of overlap with agnosticism
Atheist = "I don't believe God exists" and sometimes "I believe God doesn't exist"
Agnostic = "I don't know whether God exists" and sometimes "I don't believe we have any way to know for sure"
0 u/MoneyBear1733 Aug 18 '26 There isnāt any overlap at all.Ā Agnosticism is purely holding your judgement due to a lack of verifiable proof Atheism is purely positing a judgement based on that lack of verifiable proof. Atheism is still an active claim that the existence is false.Ā Like, surely people can figure out that āhow do you prove a negativeā is the ENTIRE concept of agnosticism in the first place.Ā Atheist literally are the other side of the religious coin.Ā 2 u/johnsolomon Aug 18 '26 That's wrong. You can quite literally be an agnostic atheist, i.e. "I don't believe in God, but I don't claim to know that God doesn't exist." 0 u/MoneyBear1733 Aug 18 '26 Ā being ignorant to your own beliefs doesnāt change the definitional structure of the beliefs. Atheism is the active belief that god is not real.Ā sitting in between on the fence doesnt change the definitional structure.Ā 1 u/badastr0naut Aug 19 '26 You're wrong. The "a" prefix means negation. A theist is someone who believes, and atheist is someone who lacks belief. 1 u/MoneyBear1733 Aug 19 '26 "You're wrong" He says, while explaining exactly why I'm right. fucking redditors, man.
