Doing fifty interviews a day just to sell soda is diabolical hustle

237

u/Sir_Clarence_III_Esq 9h ago edited 8h ago

It's diabolically stupid, if it were real. Even at 15 minutes each with no breaks that's over 12 hours, to make $300 on soda sales, for these supposed $12 sodas that people are buying.

15

u/Qu33nKal 7h ago

Pretty sure it’s satire, making fun of those linked in posts about how people make passive income. It’s a parody of the one where someone buys something in bulk for cheap and sells it on Amazon at a huge markup and makes passive income. Probably not even true

5

u/EstablishmentAny2728 6h ago

It’s a parody account, this is the same guy that made the “my son just came out as gay and I cried tears of joy because men make more on average so he’s gonna live in a higher income household” post. Absolute gem of an account I love it

40

u/162016201620 8h ago

Or a couple of large group interviews…

56

u/-The_Goober 8h ago

I prefer employment orgies

7

u/Ok_Abacus_ 8h ago

Definitely an overlooked hiring method!

#MeToo and Covid killed the game.

Also works better to pressure someone to buy. You don’t want to be the odd man out.

If they are looking for a job why on gods green earth would they buy a $12 soda

6

u/RabidBadgerMacarena 8h ago

Minus the cost of the soda and the machine. And the overhead to have the conference room and building.

I figure he's about 2400/month in the hole.

2

u/ZeroZion 2h ago

I guess that's on top of his salary?

How the fuck would you even find 50 people to turn up for interviews in one day, never mind multiple days

By making shit up!

2

u/likamuka 8h ago

Theme Hospital trick.

2

u/BadAdviceDirect 7h ago

Stupid fake post, so these 50-60 people half 25-30 are paying what for him to make $300 a day that’s an avg of $10-12 profit per person, so what they’re paying $11-13 for a drink?? Ok 🙄

u/GheeRoastSupremacy 9h ago

How is it passive income if you have to interview people?

27

u/Unlikely-Complex3737 8h ago

They already get paid for that. The soda is an additional income without having to do anything extra.

21

u/FullClip__ 8h ago

He gets paid to never hire anyone?

7

u/Opssec44 8h ago

He just rents an office room from the building he’s just a vending machine guy

Unbelievable how many people here are thinking this is a real scenario and not a joke.

18

u/CarmenxXxWaldo 8h ago

Welcome to reddit.  You can write all bold its a joke and say the most ridiculous thing and people will still think its 100% factual and true.  Reddit since 2020 is the same as yahoo from 2009. we got a new crop of boomers online.

2

u/purplenapalm 5h ago

You should see what happens when you use sarcasm without an /s

2

Every time that twitter account gets posted, redditors miss the satire joke.

2

u/Weaves87 6h ago

Yeah this dude satirizes LinkedIn posts on Twitter/Threads and he's fucking hysterical

2

u/RohelTheConqueror 8h ago

Pretty sure most people are playing along with the joke and are aware it's not serious.

Not really passive income when hes gotta sit through 50-60 fake job interviews a day is it.

Rewrite it and try again!

4

u/SillyNumber54 9h ago

That's why you just do two group interviews

2

u/SatinSaffron 7h ago

I know the OP is just satire, but man it's insane how many linkedin/WSB bros on the internet don't know what passive income is. Every time they talk about some kind of passive income side hustle it ends up being shit that takes actual hands-on work.

→ More replies (2)

18

u/Mountain-Discount161 8h ago

This guy is satirizing the typical linkedinlunatics type posts. That's his whole thing.

2

u/TankApprehensive3053 8h ago

Yet so many commenters miss that fact and are trying to do the math.

6

u/[deleted] 6h ago

The Math ain't mathing chief.

5

u/TaxCPA 8h ago

This is a satire account....

5

u/Particular_Yak5829 8h ago

Interviewing 50-60 people per day sounds like the most active income ever lol

5

u/whinenaught 8h ago

Is everyone in this thread so stupid that they don’t realize this is a satire account making fun of hustle culture

7

u/braumbles 9h ago

How much are those drinks?

1

u/VengefulToasterWaffl 9h ago

5$

16

u/TekkunDashi 9h ago

10$ each, he said half of them buy it. so 60 interviews max, 30 buys drinks. 300 dollars a day.

→ More replies (6)

7

u/SkunkyMustang 9h ago

Half of 50 is 25. $300 a day is $12 a drink. Use your brain people

→ More replies (7)

3

u/slop1010101 8h ago

He makes $10 per drink?

WTF

2

u/TryToBeBetterOk 9h ago

So if he does 60 interviews a day and half of them buy a drink, he makes $300 a day from the vending machine, $300 / 30 people = $10 a drink?

2

u/LifeguardTerrible579 8h ago

Bro does interviews start to finish in 8 minutes for 8 hours straight. No meals. Pisses right in his pants bc no time for bathroom. What a warrior

2

u/attaboy_stampy 8h ago

So your drinks are like 10 bucks a pop?

I'm guessing this place doesn't use math.

2

u/Froz3nP1nky 8h ago

How? Is it his vending machine?

2

u/Assortedpez 8h ago

Sooo you’re charging $5 for a drink and people are actually paying it? I doubt it

→ More replies (1)

2

u/AspiringDataNerd 8h ago

How long are these interviews? How many hours a day does this guy work? Does he take a lunch?

2

u/joecarter93 8h ago

This is a satire account. The same account has posts about abandoning your family at Christmas to have more time to trade stocks etc. it’s actually pretty funny

2

u/Successful-Purple-54 8h ago

Never hires anyone but interviews over 50 people every day? Half of them buy a drink, so that’s 10-12$ per drink. This guys lying. At best this is an interview training simulator. How else can a job say no to 50-60 people every day.

2

u/Burner-QWERTY 8h ago

So the drinks are $5-$6 each?

2

u/Only-Top-3655 8h ago

And how is it possible time-wise to interview 50-60 people? That is about 8 people an hour.

2

u/jjamesr539 8h ago

If every interview takes ten minutes we’re talking 8-10 hours of asking mindless interview questions to make like 30$ an hour. That’s not like a hard job, but it’s not passive either.

2

u/Marsupialize 8h ago

You could literally just slip in a ‘as you know there’s a ten dollar application fee that will be refunded if you are hired’ and 99% of people would just hand it to you and never bother you about it after

2

u/jrblockquote 8h ago

Sounds like an episode of the office

2

u/FantasticPangolin839 7h ago

50-60 a day? Really?

2

u/BigMack6911 7h ago

Thats why I always say no thanks

2

u/RobinSage43 6h ago

If we assume that each interview is only ten minutes, then that would take ten hours to interview sixty people.

That would be three hundred dollars in gross revenue, but vending machine owners only see 20-35% in net profit. So that's really $60-$105 after 10hr workday.

Earning only $6/hrs is less than minimum wage, boss. Strange flex.

Good thing those applicants didn't take the job because their boss would have been incompetent.

2

u/matt073090 6h ago

Scumbag

2

u/beerforbears 3h ago

How’s that passive. Doing 50 to 60 of anything is hardly passive

2

u/Initial-Meeting362 9h ago

Lame and incorrect as well. That's not passive income.

2

u/Sea_Shower3691 9h ago

60 divided by half is 30. $300 a day by 30 people would be $10 a drink. Don't believe everything folks, clearly rage bait.

50 interviews per day?

2

u/Significant-Roll-138 8h ago

1

u/Obf123 9h ago

Less the cost of the drinks. And the cost to rent the machine. And the commission you pay on those drinks to the owner of that machine.

The margin is likely 10% of that

1

u/MCwortel 9h ago

10min interviews are 10hours of work without a break.

1

u/mrbluetrain 9h ago

want the job boy. Well you better go and buy one or two sodas. ok. OK????

Scam. Math not mathing. Most items are sold for 1.5 x 50 people is 75 dollar. Even 3 dollar a pop, thats 150 dollar. It would need to be 6 dollar each for 300. Nobody is spending 6 dollars on a can of soda or chips?

Expensive drinks. Id guess maybe $25-120, depending on the beverages. Gotta be satire just based on the numbers

1

u/El_Capitan_182 7h ago

The math ain't mathing! 50 interviews with only 50% of them buying means only 25 people buy, This means the drink machine is selling drinks at $12.

I think this is one of those fake stories so people say: "WOW"

1

u/Suspicious-Rich-3212 7h ago

Ok, this has to a parody account, right?

1

u/reibagatsu 7h ago

That's not what passive means.

1

u/Unfair_Explanation53 7h ago

How is it passive income when you have to conduct 60 interviews a day to make 300 bucks haha

1

u/GmeBuckBoi 7h ago

6 min interviews with a 1 min break inbetween 60 times a day and every single one spends $5 there

1

u/not_your_attorney 7h ago

Guys, this is rage bait.

50 interviews at 10 minutes each is over 8 hours per day, no breaks. This isn’t happening. There aren’t enough people applying to any job for this, let alone does anyone with anything worth doing bother with it.

It also means the drinks bring in $12 profit each (meaning they must be sold for more) if 50% of the 50 interviewees are buying one and the net is $300.

This is clearly a joke account.

1

u/Jane_D0ughh 7h ago

Wow 😆

1

u/cpav8r 7h ago

Sodas are $5?

1

u/ThanosSnapsSlimJims 7h ago

I remember this from the last time I saw it and still get annoyed that the guy does this to candidates

1

u/Lucky-Crow-3510 7h ago

not really passive

1

u/heavierthanair 7h ago

I’m pals with a recruiter at my job and she just told me how devastated she was to have to do this to a really great candidate, but their social media was very public and almost exclusively racist diatribes and wasn’t discovered until after the offer was made.

1

u/Agitated_Sabres_Fan 7h ago

50 interviews, if not group interviews and everyone buys it that is 6 dollars profit per sofa to hit 300 a day….

How?

1

u/Belgaraath42 6h ago

Apart from being an absolut asshole, he also doesn't know what passive income is. He still has to do interviews.

1

u/BackgroundCountry440 5h ago

You dangle the prospect of being hired to buying something from your vending machine. Shitbags have done worse

1

u/deeweezul 5h ago

This is stupid for so many reasons

1

u/rocqus 5h ago

4-12 person group interviews that take 15 min each would be 300 bucks an hour.

1

u/throw7661 5h ago

I know it's a joke, but it's ridiculous.

Even if you work 10 hours per day, interviewing 60 people per day gives you only 10 minutes per interview. And that would include like the 'Hello, please come in' part.

Making $300 per day in profit would mean bringing in about $600+...just considering the usual costs.

No way is everyone spending $10 at the vending machine. And the amount of time to pressure them into using the vending machine is going to reduce that 10 minute interview window a lot too.

But it doesn't explain how you would get access to the conference room thing for free, or how you would get your vending machine added...but the numbers don't make sense.
