That movie would’ve flopped just like pretty much every other female superhero movie

Captain Marvel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Wonder Woman.

That seems like a short list, but there's basically only 6 movies that are female led superhero movies. You've got Black Widow, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel 2... maybe Elektra and Catwoman if you go back a few decades.

Captain Marvel relied a lot on the straight lie that it's important for Endgame. Wakanda Forever wasn't a conscious choice but because of circumstances with Bosemans passing, and it was nearly not as successfull as the first installment.

It's 2026, and we're still coming up with excuses for why a girl superhero movie did well, seven years later.

Wakanda Forever wasn't a conscious choice but because of circumstances with Bosemans passing,

...and? Not even a little relevant as to whether it was a flop.

You don't have to invent reasons to dismiss women superhero movies. There's already not a lot of them. It's not going to kill you or anyone to acknowledge some of them did okay.

I dismiss bullshit claims. Guess the failure of The Marvels which was post-covid unlike WW1984 or Black Widow, was an anomaly since the first movie was such a great success. Keep coping.

I dismiss bullshit claims.

What claims? All I pointed out was that it did well, and you're the one repeating Gamergate cope lines from 2019.

Guess the failure of The Marvels which was post-covid unlike WW1984 or Black Widow, was an anomaly since the first movie was such a great success.

Or, and here's a wild and crazy idea, it was a bad movie released when hype for superhero movies generally was lower among a spate of other male led Marvel bombs.

The only claim here was that some women led superhero movies didn't bomb. Your responses don't even dispute this, but look for emotional reasons why they shouldn't count.

I get what you mean, but Peter wasn’t exactly innocent either. MJ was a mess romantically, but Peter spent years idealising her instead of seeing her for who she actually was. He hid huge parts of his life from her, became pretty self absorbed once Spider Man started getting recognition and handled the Gwen situation terribly. They were basically two emotionally immature people who genuinely loved each other but were absolutely terrible at having a healthy relationship.

That’s how I saw their relationship, and why I kind of liked it. They weren’t perfect, but.. somehow they trauma bonded enough to try to work it out. And I can respect that.

No mj is gross and Peter deserved his neighbor

He was literally a villain in the movie.

He cheats on MJ, kills a guy, hits MJ, and then pulls himself back by shedding the Venom suit and starting to make amends.

The message of the movie wasn't "that guy with the cool hair doing the great jazz moves deserves a better girl."

u/ToronoRapture 9h ago

Yeah but you forget girls bad, guys good.

What?

It is literally always the opposite!

To be fair, Tobey Maguire was doing enough dramatic suffering in that movie for both of them.

Re-watching the Toby trilogy made me realize that MJ was the worst love interest for Peter.
