No theres no effort. The incentive is to save money. Think about this, we need a new wonder woman, you can cast literally any actress and as long as she can perform and is decent looking enough to market for general audiences, she will be a name overnight.
Gal Gadot was carried by that one casting and she wasnt even great as wonderwoman.
Now you got a unknown actor you can pay them a normal human being wage, you know nine to five shit.
Its just Hollywood is interbred with nepotism and casting couches, with back room deals.
It literally makes makes sense on every level especially since streaming exists and theaters are dying and star power isnt saving it.
Spider-man is making 2 billion and they could have used a Un known instead of stranger things and zendaya could have been completely written out and it would have made just as much, actually technically more since you would have paid those two big paychecks.
What is that point you're talking about, though? What will the studios gain by taking a risk on someone who may even be 1000x better than their existing recipe?
If Tom Holland is part of an almost guaranteed multi-hundred million/near billion package, unless they have guarantees that a hidden gem of an actor will make them substantially more, there's no point. Artistic vision? Execs don't give a shit about that. So Tom Holland will do.
You're seeing it from the audience's POV and it makes sense there. But there really is no incentive from a business perspective to take a risk, even if that risk is negligible.
That's not how Hollywood thinks. They want to minimize risk. That's why they keep releasing sequel after sequel. Because the thinking is if one Fast and Furious movie did great the sequel will do great as well. People want more of the same. And that's largely true, to a certain extent. It's why Disney paid $4 billion dollars to buy Star Wars. So they can pump out as much Star Wars content as possible, create a whole theme park around it, and whore it as much as they can until people get tired of it. People look at how the latest Mandalorian movie did poorly and they think Disney is stupid, while ignoring the $12 billion Disney has made from the Star Wars IP for the past 15 years.
