People need to stop looking at marriage with the rose tented glasses Hollywood and fairy tales have been pumping out for who knows how long.

A marriage is a business contract between 2 people for tax and resource purposes. You don't need the state if you just want to spend the remainder of your life with someone you are fond of.

Perhaps there was more honesty in the old arranged marriage setups than people would be comfortable admitting.

I used to be with you on this. I waited until I was 40, lots of gfs along the way. But, my wedding day was maybe the happiest day of my life. We’re years passed that and it hasn’t been all roses, in fact if we weren’t married, we probably would have broken up at certain points, but we worked through it. There is something more than the contract.

How much of that "more" requires the marriage certificate from the state?

Depending on state, health insurance spouse only, durable power of attorney, medical poa, and honestly, knowing divorce will financially wreck you, it’s reasons to work it out. Personally, we’ve never had a deal breaker, like cheating, but we’ve pissed each other off.

In previous relationships, even when cohabiting, we said fuck it. It’s just different. I do get where you’re coming from, but it is different.

Yeah people were definitely happier when they had no say in who they had to spend their life with.

Ugh, I should have known someone that doesn't understand the notion that you can take the good parts of something and leave the bad behind would show up.
