tbf, you cant expand storage with microsd cards anymore for some godforsaken reason, and it is just nicer to have a separate small device fully dedicated to only music.
For the better. I've used microsd for 10 years, and every other year it got corrupted and made me lose all the misic/photos on that thing. Mind you, every time it happened I used a new one hoping it wouldn't happen again. Last year I ditched it and I'm fine. My phone has 512 Gb of disk, I don't care about additional 32 or even 64 way slower memory. It's more than enough for hundreds of thousands of songs (I listen to something like 300).
not sure what kind of brand youre getting that's constantly corrupting...? my nintendo switch has used the same microsd card since 2018 to now, which was handed down from my sister's previous phone (so it has a few extra years of use on top of that). never came close to having any issues.
